Clinical Practitioner/Prescriber – Sunderland UTC
Salary: £28.68 Per Hour plus evening and weekend enhancements

We are currently looking for clinical practitioners to join our friendly team at Sunderland Urgent Treatment centre. This is an exciting opportunity to come and work in a busy, dynamic environment where the focus is on teamwork providing excellent and efficient care to our local community by offering an alternative health care choice and reducing pressures on local Emergency departments.

As a practitioner in the UTC the post holder will provide an expert level of holistic health care for adults and children requiring urgent and unscheduled care. The practitioner will achieve this by using their in-depth knowledge and experience and broad range of techniques to assess, investigate, interpret, diagnose, treat and refer or discharge patients.

As a Clinical Practitioner you will

• Provide a see and treat/streaming service to ensure rapid patient throughput
• Work autonomously and be accountable for his/her own professional actions.
• Assess undifferentiated patients with a range of acute, non-acute and chronic medical conditions.
• Take history, make appropriate physical examinations, formulate differential diagnoses and formulate/manage treatment plans when working in any clinical environment.
• Refer and facilitate patient pathways through appropriate referrals to primary, community, secondary and tertiary care for patients, when necessary, such as 2-week wait, urgent and routine referrals to specialities.
• Request investigations and be able to interpret results.
• Prescribe medication as required within your clinical competence.
• Recognise the need and initiate emergency treatment to save life or to safeguard the interests of the patient and refer to emergency services when appropriate.
• Recognise any social needs, safeguarding concerns and act appropriately to safeguard the patient.

Essential Criteria

• At least 5 years post qualification experience.
• Good knowledge and experience in the assessment and management of minor injury and illness presentations.
• Registered with the NMC/HCPC
• Non-medical prescriber qualification
• Completion of level 7 module/s including a history taking and patient examination/decision-making module.
• Working towards PgDip/MSc qualification
• Minor illness and minor injury qualification or the COP Specialist Paramedic qualification

Desirable

• Accident and emergency or urgent treatment centre experience
• Experience of telephone triage assessment and relevant pathways/electronic prescribing
• Good knowledge of primary care referral pathways such as 2-week-wait referrals.
• Good knowledge of QOF and locally commissioned services
• IRMER qualification
• Red dot qualification
• Experience of lab result interpretation
