Bank Opportunity: Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist (Echocardiography) - Outpatients Department

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist (Echocardiography) to join the Outpatients Department on a Bank-only basis. This role offers a chance to work within a dynamic and supportive team, delivering high-quality echocardiographic services to patients across the department.

Main duties of the job
As a Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist (Echocardiology) within the Outpatients Department, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality echocardiography services across all settings. Working both independently and collaboratively with senior colleagues, your responsibilities will include:
  • Performing and reporting adult echocardiograms to national standards, supporting clinical decision-making and patient care.
  • Contributing to service development by evaluating new technologies, reviewing departmental practices, and attending professional meetings.
  • Monitoring and auditing technical standards, participating in research, and supporting quality improvement initiatives.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, including those with disabilities or in distress, and maintaining strong working relationships with staff and relatives.
  • Supervising junior staff and trainees, supporting their development through clinical supervision and mentorship.
  • Ensuring equipment functionality, managing stock control, and performing administrative tasks including data entry and documentation.
  • Upholding patient confidentiality, adhering to Health Board policies, and promoting safe working practices across all areas of service delivery.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential
  • Masters level qualification or demonstrable level of knowledge and experience to include: BSc in Clinical Physiology, BSE in Echocardiography or equivalent European recognised qualification, Professional Body Exams (ASCS), Specialist post basic courses

Desirable
  • BSE / Mentorship
  • RCCP (or eligible and actively seeking registration)

Experience
Essential
  • ILS
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner
  • Comprehensive IT Skills

Desirable
  • Personnel / Management skills
  • ALS

  • Good Interpersonal skills
  • Motivated, flexible and adaptable to the needs of the service
  • Welcomes constructive criticism
  • Maintains confidentiality
