We are seeking a skilled, experienced, and passionate clinician to join our Critical Care and Therapy Team at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.

This exciting new role will work clinically and managerially within Critical Care and across the wider hospital, supporting patients throughout their rehabilitation journey following critical illness. The postholder will work closely with the AHP Critical Care Team, Critical Care medical and nursing teams, and the multidisciplinary Follow-Up Service to develop rehabilitation pathways using evidence-based practice and national guidance.

RCHT has a 19-bedded Critical Care Unit with a mixed Level 2 and Level 3 caseload. We are a dynamic multidisciplinary team committed to improving patient outcomes.

Our AHP Critical Care Team includes Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians, Psychologists and a Generic Support Worker. This post is fully supported by the Therapy Leads and Critical Care Matron.

This is a part-time post working 18.75 hours per week, fixed term contract. This role includes flexible working across 7 days and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

• To lead and coordinate the delivery and development of rehabilitation post critical care at RCHT using effective evidence-based practice in line with agreed national standards for patient safety and clinical practice.
• To explore the physical and psychological needs of patients following critical illness. Be competent in specialist assessment of physical and psychological needs of patients following critical illness, define rehabilitation goals and be able to refer within agreed multidisciplinary protocols to formulate an individualised rehabilitation plan.
• To provide the highest standard of holistic care for patients through the utilisation of advanced clinical skills and advice in the assessment and management of patients, working autonomously and with the multi-disciplinary team to improve the quality and safety of patient care
• To set up and develop the service provision for patients following critical illness along the rehabilitation pathway, to include research and implementing innovative ways of working. The post holder will collaborate closely with stakeholders to monitor key performance metrics, evaluate service effectiveness, and inform necessary improvements.
• To develop effective relationships and collaborative working practices with the critical care AHP team & follow-up team delegating tasks appropriately to effectively manage, develop, and adapt clinical services, while maintaining highly specialised knowledge.

Knowledge
Essential

• Relevant allied health professional or nursing degree
• HCPC or NMC registered.
• Evidence of further formal study e.g. Postgraduate qualifications, (Postgraduate certificate/Diploma, Masters modules, or equivalent management qualification

Desirable

• Membership of relevant professional body
• Membership of relevant special interest groups

Experience
Essential

• Comprehensive clinical experience in critical care within the NHS
• Ability to demonstrate highly developed leadership skills
• Proven experience of managing a service or change process.
• Highly developed skills in managing staff, including managing challenging behaviours, emotive situations
• Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team, a good understanding of their roles and respect for the other professionals within the team
• Experience of managing the risks associated with unsupervised / lone working
• Experience of working with students as a clinical educator
• Advanced clinical skills in rehabilitation following critical illness

Desirable

• Experience working at Band 7 level.
• Experience in budget Management and business planning.
• Experience in writing policies and guidelines.
• Evidence of relevant leadership training.
