Paediatric Physiotherapist - Critical care Clinical Educator

The new role offers a highly specialised physiotherapist with experience in critical care the opportunity to deliver and promote high-quality education for physiotherapy staff working at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

The postholder will spearhead the development of this new education service, alongside a clinical specialist physiotherapist, providing training for physiotherapy staff working within critical care and inpatient wards, Oncall staff and the wider MDT. You will be a source of expertise locally, nationally and internationally.

The post holder will also be expected to work clinically to maintain their skills, participating in a 24 hour and weekend on-call rota. The educative and clinical role will involve the assessment of children presenting with a wide range of diagnoses, namely cardiac (including ECMO), neurology, burns, respiratory and general medical conditions. As well as providing respiratory care for these patients there is a commitment to early mobilisation and the training of the MDT to achieve this. The postholder will link with other highly trained physiotherapists to facilitate the competency training for orthopaedics and will liaise with clinical educators from other professions.

Main duties of the job
To organise, lead and provide a highly specialised education service for physiotherapy staff and other relevant MDT working within critical care (PICU,HDUand inpatient wards). This will include ensuringhigh-quality assessment and treatment of children, assistingin the development,planning and progression of service.

All relevant staff must remaincompetent and up to date in their knowledge, including our large cohort of on-call staff. This will involve implementing,organising and delivering teaching, skills-basedlearningand simulations, as well as auditing and evaluating success.

To act as a source ofexpertiseanddemonstrate advanced knowledge in the management of children in critical care, including cardiac (+ ECMO), neurology, burns, respiratory, major trauma etc

To understand the importance of early mobilisation within critical care and play a vital role in ensuring the culture within BRHC promotes this; following current guidelines and procedures that exist, auditing and evaluating progress and advocating for change whererequired.

Toprovidespecialist advice, clinicaleducationand training to other members of the multi-disciplinary team both within the Trust and externally.

To link with clinical educator roles in other professions and contribute toeducation strategy.

To be able to take a lead role in the management of more difficult and complex cases within a multi-disciplinary team approach, acting as an autonomous practitioner.

• Evidence of working within a multidisciplinary team
• Previous experience of teaching/education to a wide range of specialities
• Previous experience of service development
