Senior Colorectal Laparoscopic FellowThe closing date is 26 July 2026Job summaryThis post is intended for a senior trainee prior to a consultant appointment and would suit a post-CCT surgeon.
It is expected that there will be at least 2 days each week in theatre, clinic duties, access to endoscopy training if required, or endoscopy sessions for JAG accredited candidates.

Outpatient servicesMost outpatient activity takes place in a purpose built dedicated Out-patient Department on the Royal Cornwall Hospital site in Truro. Additional clinics are held in community hospitals around Cornwall.
Inpatient servicesGI inpatients are managed in Royal Cornwall Hospital (Truro), with a separate dedicated ambulatory and inpatient Surgical Receiving Unit (across 2 wards). There are two dedicated integrated laparoscopic theatres. Children's surgical services are available at the Trust, with 2 of the GI surgeons delivering clinics and operating sessions which are an additional training resource.
Daycase servicesDaycase theatre sessions are also held at West Cornwall Hospital (Penzance), which also offers further integrated laparoscopic theatres.
Main duties of the job- To predominantly work in the elective colorectal surgery department focusing on laparoscopic training prior to a consultant post.
- To fulfil out-of-hours' responsibilities including full participation in the Specialty Doctors' on-call rota 1:15 nights/ weekends.
- To develop experience and expertise in the assessment, management, and operative treatment of colorectal and emergency surgical conditions.
- Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students.
- To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
- To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
- To attend meetings as appropriate.
- Fulfil duties of weekly timetable including any out of hours responsibilities.
