Job summary
The post will incorporate the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role dimensions of expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management and research. The haematology Oncology service provides expert advice and management for patients who have been diagnosed with a haematological cancer and are having treatment for their disease.

Main duties of the job
The Clinical Nurse Specialist will be required to:

• Support the Macmillan Lead Acute Oncology Nurse to deliver and evaluate the service delivery model
• Support team working and collaboration within the haemato Oncology team and the wider team across the Royal Free Group.
• Provide visibility as haem Onc CNS support to Multidisciplinary teams across the North Middlesex Hospital.
• Deliver an CNS service across the North Middlesex Hospital.
• The CNS will have a key role within the MDT acting as a liaison between all members of the multi disciplinary team,
• Liaise with all key members of the multidisciplinary team to advise and support colleagues to allow for the delivery of seamless and efficient care and maintain patient flow.
• Work autonomously to deliver specialist clinical care appropriate to the needs of the patient group and based on principles that are research based and which enhance the quality of patient care.
• Work within sphere of confidence, and seek support and education to extend the band 7 CNS role with additional skills in Advanced Clinical Assessment

Education and professional qualifications
Essential

• Registered Nurse
• Undergraduate Degree Qualification
• Further education and qualification in haematological cancer related subject. Preferably with SACT qualification
• Mentorship/Education Qualification

Desirable

• Advanced Clinical assessment skills/Nurse prescribing

Experience
Essential

• Substantial post registration experience working in haematology/Oncology
• Evidence of supporting and educating Junior members of the work force

Desirable

• Previous experience of research and audit of activity.
• Ability to administer SACT and provide advice and support to patients receiving SACT

Skills and aptitudes
Essential

• Ability to independently assess an unwell patient
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills and ability to positively influence colleagues
• Expert knowledge and skills for the post and ability to share that knowledge using advanced communication skills.
• Ability to problem solve, prioritise and work to deadlines.
• Ability to manage stressful situations and ensure that patient needs are treated with the highest priority.
