Job summary
Cedar Ward is a 24 bedded Acute Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward, General Surgery, some ENT and Max Fax . It also accommodates surgical patients that are leaving ITU that require tracheostomy care ( usually 1-2 pts maximum).

Working Monday to Friday 37.5 hours which may entail some flexibility when required.

The current post holder is retiring after a long successful career as the Senior Sister on this ward, she has nurtured a mature, skilful, dedicated and kind team of nurses.

Main duties of the job
  • The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the speciality.
  • To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care.
  • To work weekdays and if requested to work occasional weekends and/or nights to monitor quality of service throughout a 24 hour period.
  • To take overall responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of the Quality & Safety boards and daily monitoring of planned vs actual staffing levels.
  • To monitor and ensure a positive focussed service incorporating patients' feedback to improve patient care.
  • To be responsible for the supervision and development of all staff including student nurses and support workers, providing support, advice and training.
  • To effectively manage the ward resources, i.e. pay and non-pay budget, human resources, the clinical environment and inclusive of beds where appropriate.
  • To ensure compliance of mandatory training and appraisal requirements for all nursing staff.
  • To act as an effective role model and mentor promoting excellence through practice.
  • To act up for the Matron when necessary.
  • To be an ideas person that is able to come up with solutions, manage quality projects and lead change as required.
