Job summary
Are you a newly qualified B5 Physiotherapist or a B5 with experience looking for a new challenge in the acute setting?

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust, North Middlesex Hospital (NMUH) site

As a B5 working in a busy acute Trust, you will rotate through all core areas of Physiotherapy including; MSK, Medicine, Respiratory (ITU), the Acute Stroke Unit (ASU), Orthopaedics & Surgical as well as Medicine for the care of the elderly (MFE).

You will be supported in developing your skills and knowledge with relevant competencies and supervision. In addition, you will participate in our On-Call service and 7-day working rotas (Respiratory & Orthopaedics).

Main duties of the job
To perform physiotherapy assessments and treatments within each rotation, working as an autonomous practitioner. To effectively liaise with patients, carers and members of the MDT in both verbal and written format.

To see a variety of assessment and treatment techniques using well developed observational, palpatory and empathetic investigative and analytical skills.To consolidate your knowledge and skills within each rotation and use these in other rotations. To assist Team Leaders in running a clinically cost-effective Service.

To be clinically, legally and professionally responsible for each patient in your care.

To seek advice and support from senior staff or colleagues when you feel unsure about any clinical or process matters.

To participate in the 7-day rota for your rotation and the emergency on-call night-time rota, when you have been assessed as competent to do so. This will involve the assessment and treatment of patients on the wards, A & E and the Critical Care unit.

To keep accurate daily statistical records to support the Finance department.

To maintain an up-to-date CPD portfolio which supports your HCPC registration.

To support the Service in achieving the London Quality Standards mandated on the Trust.

Person Specification
Education & professional requirements
Essential
  • Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration

Desirable
  • Member of CSP
  • Member of Special interest Group

Experience
Essential
  • A broad range of undergraduate experience in all core specialities of Physiotherapy
  • Experience and ability to work collaboratively within MDT
  • Experience of clinical practice in an NHS environment

Desirable
  • Previous experience at band 5 level
  • Experience of participating in audit and evidence-based projects.
  • Evidence of actively participating in in-service training and MDT groups, and evaluating effectiveness of training
  • Research experience
  • Experience in managing limited resources and high workloads

Skills & Aptitudes
Essential
  • The ability to discuss clinical reasoning in the management of cases
  • The ability to identify and act upon adverse clinical signs
  • Able to communicate complex information to patients, carers, other health professionals and team
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Good time management skills with ability to organize, prioritise and delegate
  • Aptitude for self-directed learning, critically evaluate own learning needs, and demonstrate via CPD portfolio
  • Able to provide a high standard of clear, concise, written and verbal reports in English
  • Good presentation skills
  • IT skills, including using hospital databases, word processing, excel, email and power point
  • Ability to manage own stress and work in a stressful and unpredictable environment. To show empathy, fairness, and support to others
  • An understanding of evidenced-based practice, pertaining to Physiotherapy
  • Awareness of national guidelines and standards relevant to Physiotherapy
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its implication for Physiotherapy
  • Understanding of Professional legal responsibilities
  • IT skills - Ability to create and/or format data and/or complex spreadsheets using omputerised systems
