Description

Job summary
We are looking for a 6 month Locum Consultant to cover a vacancy we have within the Diabetes/Endocrine Department.

This is a locum post and has been created to cover the maternity leave of one of the consultants. The post is for 10 Programmed Activities.

Following the implementation of the Barnet, Enfield and Haringey clinical strategy, the department has also seen significant expansion in workload. We are seeking a highly motivated consultant colleague to provide excellent acute care and develop new service pathways for this cohort of patients.

Main duties of the job
Each of the diabetes/ endocrinology consultants will be in charge of in-patients (we work a ward based system and look after a 22 bedded ward and allocated outliers) for 2 weeks for every 8 weeks (1:4 rota, shared with 3 other consultants), during which period, he or she is expected to do three full ward rounds a week, as well as daily review of new patients transferred to the ward and those who need senior review. The consultant in charge of the wards is also expected to take part in daily board rounds as well as facilitate timely discharge of patients.

The balance of 6 weeks out of 8 is on the non-wards rota described below. The acute medical share of workload may overlap and will need clinic cancellations to reflect the same.

About us
North Mid is part of North Central London integrated care system - consisting of the NHS and Local authority organisations in Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. As with other ICS's, we are working increasingly closely with partners and indeed many of our financial and performance objectives are measured at this system level. Whilst all organisations remain as standalone, statutory bodies we have an ICS infrastructure for making shared decisions and agreeing shared approaches.

We are proud of our staff and want to ensure their training allows them to provide excellent clinical care. We are also a training unit for medical students from UCL and St George's University Grenada, and for nursing and midwifery students from Middlesex and City Universities.
