Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic ophthalmology clinician to join our multidisciplinary team and provide a comprehensive paediatric ophthalmology service, including the assessment and management of ocular motility disorders.

The post holder will also contribute to the cataract service, participating in cataract theatre lists alongside consultant colleagues. Working within a supportive multidisciplinary team of ophthalmologists, specialty doctors, trainees, orthoptists, optometrists, ophthalmic nurses and allied healthcare professionals, the successful candidate will help deliver high-quality, evidence-based patient care.

The role also offers opportunities to contribute to teaching, clinical governance, audit and service development, as well as participation in the on-call rota as required.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide a comprehensive paediatric ophthalmology service, including assessment, diagnosis and management of children with ophthalmic conditions.
  • Assess and manage ocular motility disorders and strabismus.
  • Participate in cataract theatre lists and contribute to the wider cataract service.
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary ophthalmology team to deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care.
  • Provide evidence-based clinical assessment and treatment in line with current guidelines and best practice.
  • Contribute to the teaching and supervision of trainees, medical students and other healthcare professionals, as appropriate.
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities.
  • Support service development and contribute to improving the delivery of ophthalmology services.
  • Participate in the on-call rota and provide clinical support as required.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaborative working relationships with consultants, doctors, orthoptists, optometrists, nurses and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with relevant professional, departmental and organisational standards.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Full GMC Registeration
  • FRCOphth or equivalent
  • CCT in Ophthalmology or interview within 6 months of CCT date

Desirable
  • MD or PhD
  • outstanding research record

Experience
Essential
  • Experience in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Ocular Motility

Desirable
  • Training and Education of under/post graduate student

Skills
Essential
  • Strong teaching skills and experience
  • Understand clinic governance and audit procedure
