Description

Job summary
We are looking for a senior clinical fellow who can cover the gap between our gynae oncology subspecialty training posts. After three successful consecutive senior clinical fellowships, we started subspecialty training for gynaecological oncology in August 2025.

Our first subspecialty trainee finishes their subspecialty training in May 2027. As we cannot get immediately reaccredited due to the nature of the reaccreditation process, we have introduced this interim 12-month senior clinical fellowship. Successful candidates will have a good chance of continuing subspecialty training once we have reaccredited. Reaccreditation is to be expected in August 2027.

The RUH Bath Gynaecological Cancer Centre serves a population of 1 million and treats more than 300 new cancers per annum. The gynaecological oncology team in Bath has four gynaeoncology consultant surgeons and one 'unit lead' consultant. We provide a wide range of gynaecological oncology services including maximal surgical effort cytoreductive surgery including HIPEC for ovarian cancer, sentinel node technologies for endometrial and vulval cancer, and robotic surgery. We currently have access to one 3-session day per week and one 2-session day per 4 weeks on the Da Vinci Xi.

Main duties of the job
This post is designed for candidates with previous experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology who wish to have further training in Gynaecological Oncology prior to applying for subspecialty training. It provides considerable experience in acute cancer presentations and the steps taken to manage and treat gynaecology oncology cancer patients. The role also allows the candidate to develop skills in surgical planning for complex patients and advanced surgical skill including robotic surgery and HIPEC. This would also be a great opportunity to achieve colposcopy accreditation. The successful candidate will be a key member of the MDT and given the opportunity to learn key skills in managing a case load and being responsible for the diagnostics, communication and management of patients with gynaecology cancers.

Research interests are encouraged and the successful candidate would be required to deliver quality improvement initiatives.

The resident doctors work on the middle grade rota and are contracted to cover each other during absence on annual and study leave. The middle grades are resident on-call. They are expected to take part in teaching midwives and junior medical staff and help to plan the teaching programmes. The successful candidate will undertake resident on-call (50% of WTE) covering obstetrics and gynaecology.
