Job PurposeThe role of the Nursing Associate is to work with the multidisciplinary team and under the leadership of the Registered Nurse to monitor, contribute to, and inform patient care, ensuring safe and compassionate delivery of care to patients and families in the Inpatient Unit.
Key Tasks- Operational: Contribute to care planning, offer timely direct care, monitor symptoms, administer medication, monitor changes in patients' conditions, delegate tasks to healthcare assistants, second checker for controlled drugs, undertake nursing skills such as catheter insertion and cannula insertion, maintain records, contribute to risk assessments, act as advocate, contribute to discharge planning, escalate concerns, communicate fully, work as MDT member, support and train junior staff, provide handovers.
- Regulatory: Adhere to NYHC drug policies in line with NMC guidance, follow clinical risk management and safeguarding procedures, act within NMC Code and Standards for Nursing Associates.
- Overarching responsibilities: Embed values, live out behaviour framework, comply with policies, carry out duties in accordance with law and professional guidelines.
Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Registered Nursing Associate with current NMC registration
- Experience in a healthcare setting, ideally within palliative care, a specialist ward, or complex community services
- An insight into and a passion for palliative care
Desirable- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A caring, compassionate, and patient-focused attitude
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
