Job summary
The Acute Oncology Nurse (AON) will work with the team to coordinate and influence the delivery of the Acute Oncology Service (AOS) within Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust (SFT) alongside consultant leads and the local Acute Oncology Team (AOT) which comprises members of the oncology and haematology services and clinical colleagues in palliative care, acute medicine, emergency care, radiology and pathology.

Band 6 would be considered with relevant AO/SACT experience

Main duties of the job
The post holder will give advice to patients and other healthcare professionals using their specialist clinical knowledge, skills and experience through the urgent advice line.

The AON will ensure timely access and at times first response to review, diagnostics and treatment for patients providing ongoing support and information to patients and carers throughout the pathway.

The AON performs assessment of inpatient and outpatient nursing needs and plan, implement & evaluate timely care delivery and treatment according to changing healthcare needs in liaison with the consultant leads and healthcare colleagues.

Experience
Essential
  • Evidence of Clinical leadership
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner making autonomous decisions
  • Team worker demonstrating calmness and flexibility despite competing demands

Desirable
  • Minimum 2 years B6 experience
  • Change management and service improvement
  • Teaching and presentation skills

Education
Essential
  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Clinical qualification in oncology, haematology and/or cancer care

Desirable
  • Advanced Communication Skills training
  • Psychological Skills Training
  • History Taking and Physical Assessment Skills or equivalent module
  • Non Medical Prescriber Qualification
