Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and dynamic Registered Nurse to join our Acute Stroke Response Team. This specialist role is ideal for an experienced nurse who is passionate about delivering rapid, high-quality care and improving outcomes for patients presenting with suspected stroke.

As an autonomous practitioner, you will play a pivotal role in the early identification, triage, and assessment of patients with suspected stroke, ensuring timely intervention and swift progression through the appropriate stroke pathway. Working closely with medical colleagues and the multidisciplinary team, you will coordinate, implement, and evaluate care in line with local and national stroke guidelines.

Based within the Emergency Department, you will be responsible for facilitating the assessment and safe clinical transfer of patients with suspected stroke, promoting a culture of urgency and excellence in stroke care. Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:

• Take charge of the ward or department in the absence of the Ward/Department Leader when required.
• Act as a professional role model, demonstrating advanced clinical practice and promoting excellence in patient care.
• Triage and assess patients with suspected stroke, ensuring prompt intervention and adherence to agreed pathways.
• Support medical staff in the assessment and management of emergency patients, arranging and acting upon diagnostic investigations.
• Initiate appropriate treatments and investigations based on clinical assessment.
• Coordinate the safe and timely transfer, admission, or discharge of patients, ensuring a seamless patient journey.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care and improve patient outcomes.

• Immediate Life Support

Further Training

• Nurse Swallow Screen training
• National Institute of Health Stroke Scale training
• Nasogastric tube insertion

• Education/Teaching qualification
• Willingness to undertake venepuncture and cannulation training

Experience
Essential

• Medical Nurse Experience
• Experience in an acute stroke setting or stroke rehabilitation
• Experience of assessing potential stroke patients for acute stroke management
