Job Summary
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed doctor to this permanent 7 PA post within our established Community Paediatrics service.

You will join a large multidisciplinary team of Consultants, Specialist/Associate Specialists and Specialty Doctors providing community paediatric services across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.

The service offers a well-established programme of CPD, regular child protection peer review, and a supportive environment that encourages collaborative working and ongoing professional development.

The post is primarily based at our Eastgate Hub in East Central Bristol. However, the successful candidate will be required to work across any of our clinical sites within the partnership and may be required to attend local hospitals for daytime on-call commitments. Reasonable notice will be provided where work is required away from the usual base.

As our services continue to evolve, clinical sessions and base locations may change in line with service needs and the agreed clinical strategy.

We are proud to contribute to the education and training of medical students from the University of Bristol, and the successful applicant will have opportunities to support undergraduate teaching.

Main duties of the job
The Adoption Medical Adviser will primarily support Bristol and provide cross-cover for South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. The successful applicant will also serve as a panel member for Adoption West.

The post holder will advocate for children whose care plan is adoption and provide specialist medical advice throughout the adoption process. Responsibilities include undertaking statutory health assessments for children in care, preparing comprehensive health reports for children being considered for adoption, and assessing the health information of prospective adopters. They will liaise with GPs and other healthcare professionals where appropriate and provide advice to the Agency Decision Maker on health-related matters.

The post holder will meet with prospective adopters to discuss the health and developmental needs of matched children and provide specialist advice on intercountry adoptions where required.

As a member of the Adoption West Panel, the post holder will attend panel meetings, contribute to recommendations, present medical reports, answer health-related queries, identify adoption support needs, and contribute to court reports relating to placement and adoption orders. They will also participate in panel training, appraisal and ensure statutory reports are completed in line with relevant legislation and national standards.
