Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Fellow in Acute Medicine at registrar level (IMT3/ST3 equivalent) based at Yeovil District Hospital. This role is ideal for doctors looking to gain Tier 2 decision-making experience and progress towards higher specialty training in Acute Internal Medicine. You will work within a busy Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), supported by experienced Acute Physicians, delivering high-quality care for acutely unwell patients.

Main Duties of the Job

• Act as a Tier 2 senior decision maker in AMU and SDEC
• Assess and manage acute medical admissions efficiently
• Support operational flow and clinical decision-making
• Supervise junior doctors (F1--IMT2)
• Deliver teaching and feedback
• Perform core procedures including:
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Chest aspiration/drain insertion
  • Ascitic taps
  • Cardioversion (with supervision as appropriate)
• Participate in the Acute Medical Registrar on-call rota (approx. 1:13)

Qualifications
Essential

• Full GMC registration with licence to practise
• MRCP Part 1
• Advanced Life Support (ALS)

Desirable

• MRCP Part 2 / PACES
• Postgraduate qualification

Experience
Essential

• Completion of Core/Internal Medicine Training (or equivalent)
• Minimum 4 years' NHS experience
• Experience in Acute/Internal Medicine

Desirable

• Experience at ST3 level or above

Additional Criteria
Essential

• Competent in core IMT procedural skills
• Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills

Desirable

• Interest in Quality Improvement or Audit
• Teaching experience
