Job SummaryWe are seeking a motivated and experienced doctor to join Somerset NHS Foundation Trust as an Clinical Fellow (IMT3) in Geriatric Medicine at Yeovil District Hospital.
This is a registrar-level post offering the opportunity to develop skills in geriatric medicine, frailty, and acute general medicine. The role provides excellent exposure as a Tier 2 decision maker, with strong consultant support and a structured training environment.
This post is ideal for candidates aiming to progress into higher specialty training in Geriatric Medicine or General Internal Medicine.
Main duties of the jobWork as a Tier 2 registrar-level clinician within Geriatric Medicine
Provide senior clinical decision-making for elderly patients, including frailty care
Participate in General Medical Registrar on-call rota (approx. 1:13) including nights, weekends, and long days
Support Frailty at Front Door services and possible rotation in stroke medicine
Supervise junior doctors and provide teaching, feedback, and clinical leadership
Perform key clinical procedures including:
- Lumbar puncture
- Chest aspiration and drain insertion
- Ascitic paracentesis
- Cardioversion

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- GMC registration with licence to practise
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification
- MRCP Part 1
Desirable- MRCP Part 2 and PACES
- Additional postgraduate qualification
ExperienceEssential- Minimum 4 years NHS experience
- Completion of Core Internal Medicine Training (or equivalent)
- Experience in acute internal medicine
Desirable- Experience at IMT3/ST3 level
Additional CriteriaEssential- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
- Competence in core IMT procedural skills
- Good communication and organisational abilities
Desirable- Understanding of audit and quality improvement processes
