Main duties of the jobWe are seeking a Consultant Clinical Oncologist with a specialist interest in Urology and Breast to join our dynamic and progressive team at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a well-established oncology service supported by dedicated clinical nurse specialists, an active clinical trials portfolio and regional collaboration.
Our Oncology Department provides high-quality inpatient and outpatient services across two hospital sites -- the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil St Margaret's Hospice, supported by Yeovil Haematology and Oncology Day Unit. Applicants must be prepared to work at both sites. The service includes systemic anti-cancer therapies, radiotherapy ( with x 3 LINACS) and an active SABR programme. The department is recognised for innovation, teaching and its outstanding pre-clinic huddle model ( job planned), enabling collaborative planning and patient-centred care.
The team includes 13 Consultants and 3 Specialists, supported by clinical fellows, specialty doctors and resident doctors in training, alongside experienced cancer nurse specialists, consultant radiographers and consultant pharmacists. We have a dedicated immunotherapy and acute oncology team and a late effects radiotherapy team. Facilities include on our 3 linear accelerators, VMAT, SABR and AI auto contouring.
We have an extremely active Clinical Trials team and run selected Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials with opportunities to be PI or associate PI.

- Responsible for patients with Urology and Breast cancer
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to service development
- Work closely with the Urology team, Breast Team and CNS teams
- Contribute to the Acute Haematology Oncology Service and teaching/supervision of junior doctors
- Engage in clinical research and trials
- Participate in an approx 1:12 on-call rota (weekends and evenings)
- Working Pattern - Monday - Friday
- Relocation - Flight and Visa only (if required)

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Full GMC registration with license to practice
- Specialist Registration status with GMC
- CCT in Clinical Oncology (or within 6 months at interview) or post FRCR part 2 and completing the portfolio pathway
Desirable- Active participation in clinical research and trials
- Experience of e-prescribing systems
- Involvement in teaching and training at undergraduate/postgraduate levels
ExperienceEssential- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in Urology, Breast, Radiotherapy and systemic anti-cancer therapy
Desirable- Active participation in clinical research and trials
- Experience of e-prescribing systems
- Involvement in teaching and training at undergraduate/postgraduate levels
Additional CriteriaEssential- Commitment to clinical excellence and governance
- Driving license or ability to travel between sites
