Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Radiology Operational Site Manager to provide operational and professional leadership for Radiology services at Musgrove Park Hospital. The post holder will play a key role within the Radiology Senior Leadership Team, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality imaging services that support excellent patient care and achievement of performance standards

The successful candidate will lead service delivery, workforce management, governance, quality improvement and operational performance across a large multidisciplinary team. They will work collaboratively with clinical and corporate colleagues to continually improve patient pathways, maximise service efficiency and support the strategic development of Radiology services across Somerset. The role includes maintaining a clinical radiography commitment, providing visible leadership and professional expertise within the department.

Main duties of the job

• Provide operational leadership and day-to-day management of Radiology services across the designated hospital site and community locations.
• Lead and manage a large multidisciplinary workforce, including rota management, recruitment, performance management, staff development and wellbeing.
• Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centred imaging services that meet national waiting time targets, quality standards and service performance objectives.
• Work as part of the Radiology Senior Leadership Team to develop workforce plans, service strategies and improvement programmes.
• Oversee departmental governance, accreditation, policy development, audit activity and compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, including radiation protection legislation.
• Manage departmental resources, budgets, equipment replacement programmes and capital investment planning.
• Analyse service performance data and implement improvements that enhance patient access, experience and operational efficiency.
• Provide visible clinical and professional leadership, maintaining HCPC registration and undertaking a clinical radiography role as part of the post.
• Develop strong relationships with clinical services, operational teams and external stakeholders to ensure integrated patient pathways and effective service delivery across Somerset.

Job responsibilities
The Radiology Operational Site Manager (Musgrove Park Hospital) is a senior leadership role responsible for the operational management, performance, quality, workforce and day-to-day delivery of Radiology services at Musgrove Park Hospital and associated community imaging locations.

As a key member of the Radiology Senior Leadership Team, the post holder will provide visible leadership across all imaging modalities, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred services that meet performance standards, quality requirements and organisational objectives. The role encompasses service development, workforce planning, governance, financial management and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on enhancing patient experience and supporting timely access to diagnostic imaging.

The successful candidate will lead and develop a large multidisciplinary workforce, fostering a positive and inclusive culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, staff wellbeing and professional development. They will work closely with clinical, operational and corporate colleagues to ensure Radiology services are fully integrated into wider patient pathways and contribute to the delivery of high-quality healthcare across Musgrove Park Hospital.

The role also includes maintaining a clinical radiography commitment, enabling the post holder to provide professional leadership, specialist expertise and frontline support while helping shape the future direction of Radiology services.

Qualifications
Essential

• Current registration as a radiographer with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
• BSc degree or equivalent qualification in diagnostic radiography.
• Clinical or leadership postgraduate study at MSc, PgD or PgC level, or demonstrable equivalent experience.

Desirable

• Significant specialist clinical knowledge at postgraduate level.

Experience
Essential

• Senior-level experience in compliance, quality improvement or clinical governance.
• Developing and managing compliance or governance frameworks and audit programmes.
• Managing a Quality Management System and controlled-document system.
• Developing policies and implementing them across staff groups.
• Sharing best practice across services and hospital sites.
• Preparing and presenting complex reports and analysing complex information.
• Building effective relationships with colleagues from varied professional backgrounds and levels of knowledge.
• Delivering education and training in different formats.
• Senior-level team management, including the ability to motivate and delegate effectively.
• Experience in an acute NHS setting.

Desirable

• Collaborative working with NHS and non-NHS organisations.
