Job summary
We are looking to appoint Vascular Surgery Registrar within the Somerset and North Devon Vascular Network. This is a 12 -month fixed term appointment to provide maternity leave cover. The post is based within the Somerset and North Devon Vascular Network, with activity across:
  • Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton
  • Yeovil District Hospital
  • North Devon District Hospital, Barnstaple
  • Other network sites as required

The successful candidate will participate in a cross-site vascular service delivering comprehensive vascular care to the population of Somerset and North Devon but will be based in the hub at Musgrove Park Hospital
Main duties of the job
  • Participate in the delivery of elective and emergency vascular surgery services.
  • Assess and manage vascular surgery inpatients under consultant supervision.
  • Attend vascular outpatient clinics across the network.
  • Participate in operating theatre sessions, undertaking procedures appropriate to experience and competence.
  • Support the management of acute vascular referrals.
  • Contribute to vascular ward rounds
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
  • Evidence of progression in surgical training or equivalent experience.

Desirable
  • MRCS or equivalent qualification.
  • National Vascular Registry experience.

Experience
Essential
  • Minimum of Core Surgical Training or equivalent.
  • Experience in the assessment and management of vascular surgical patients.
  • Experience of emergency surgical care.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable
  • Experience in endovascular procedures.
  • Evidence of audit, quality improvement or research activity.
  • Presentation or publication record.
  • Completion of relevant vascular surgery courses.

Additional Criteria
Essential
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage competing demands.
  • Evidence of operative competency appropriate to level of training.
  • Commitment to high standards of patient care.
