This post is particularly well suited to an experienced resident vascular specialist looking to expand their research portfolio.
The Department of Vascular Surgery provides a Trust-wide service, with the arterial hub based at University Hospital Coventry and outreach to three spoke hospitals: Warwick Hospital, Rugby St. Cross, and George Eliot Hospital. Outpatient clinics and day-case procedures are delivered across these sites.
University Hospital Coventry is a 1,000+ bed tertiary centre, a designated Level III Trauma Unit, and affiliated with Warwick Medical School, one of the UK's leading medical institutions.
We run an established Surgeon-led EVAR/FEVAR programme performed in the vascular operating theatre, with TEVAR and aortic arch interventions also undertaken by the vascular team, including emergency out-of-hours TEVAR for BTAI.
The unit provides complex lower limb revascularisation (open and endovascular), diabetic limb salvage, carotid surgery, and the full spectrum of vascular procedures. Services are supported by a dedicated vascular laboratory and an interventional radiology team.

Job responsibilitiesAs part of our commitment to patients and delivery of a world class service for all we have created theUHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle; this involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean managementsystem and methodologies. Our culture and ways of working reflect and embed the practices andmethodologies of UHCWi. You are expected, where identified, to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities to support this. This may include Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training, and the Human Factors Programme, amongst others. Full attendance and completion of identified courses is considered essential and a prerequisite for this post.Clinical basic 40 hours per week. Inpatient and Day surgery theatre sessions and outpatient clinics, care of inpatients, administrative work, teaching junior staff and medical students, urology middle gradeon call.Urology services, emergency and elective, continue to evolve rapidly. Special interests of the department include: urodynamics/urogynaecology, oncology, andrology, endo-urology, Robotic and standard laparoscopic Urology. A comprehensive range of endoscopic and laparoscopic equipment is available, along with 2 dedicated Holmium lasers. We have state of the art MRI-USS fusion workstations (Hitachi and Koelis) as well as LATP and regional saturation template biopsy service.We provide LATP training for the West Midlands. A Da Vinci X and two Xi robots are shared across one of the most diverse Robotic Surgery Programmes in the UK. As well as Robotic Radical Prostatectomy, Radical cystectomy with intracorporeal diversion and radical partial nephrectomy we collaborate with the colorectal and gynaecological oncology teams to provide Robotic exenteration.
Person SpecificationQualification/Training- MRCS(UK) or equivalent qualification
Desirable- Fellowship (exit exam) of Royal College of Surgeons - FRCS (vascular).
- Completion of CCT/CESR or Within 6 months of CCT/CESR.
- Completed research thesis - Masters or Doctoral (MSc, MD, PhD).
Clinical Experience- Completion of Foundation competencies or equivalent
- Postgraduate experience in Vascular and Endovascular intervention in NHS.
Desirable- Basic Surgical Skills completion.
- Advanced operative Vascular and Endovascular skills course completion.
- cCRISP completion.
- ATLS completion.
Management and Administration Experience- Ability to manage own time efficiently and effectively.
- Experience of management/Clinical Governance.
- Understanding of risk management and safe working practices
- Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists.
- Ability to manage and lead Foundation and core trainees with support.
Desirable- Formal training and qualifications in management, leadership and governance.
Teaching, Audit and Research- Experience of supervising junior medical staff.
- Ability to teach clinical and operative skills.
- Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
- Ability to interpret and apply best evidence to clinical practice.
- Ability to work with research teams to maximise participation in research.
Desirable- Ability to teach research skills and supervise postgraduate research projects
- Completion of high quality research projects.
- Publication in peer review journals
- Presentations to learned societies.
