Virtual Care Clinician
Band 6 NHS Agenda for Change - £39,959 to £48,117 per annum
Locations: Medway Make Ready Centre (East) or Crawley HQ (West)
Full time & part-time positions available.

Join our growing Virtual Care service! This is a chance to help change how urgent and emergency care is delivered. As a Virtual Care Clinician, you'll use your skills and technology to provide safe care. You'll help patients in urgent and emergency situations. Your goal is to ensure they get the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

This is much more than a telephone-based clinical role.

You'll join a service with a clear vision for Virtual Care. It aims to lead in digitally enabled urgent and emergency care. Join us at a key moment in our journey. You'll help shape how Virtual Care grows across SECAmb in the years ahead.

If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to an online clinical assessment on Thursday, 22nd October 2026. If successful you will then be invited to a face to face interview on Tuesday 3rd November 2026 at Crawley HQ.

Main duties of the job
As a Virtual Care Clinician, you will:

• Undertake autonomous virtual clinical assessments for patients accessing 999, NHS 111 and other referral pathways.
• Use clinical judgement, evidence-based practice and decision-support systems to assess and manage patients with urgent and emergency healthcare needs.
• Develop person-centred care plans and deliver self-care advice, safety-netting and onward referrals.
• Support access to community, primary are, mental health and urgent care services.
• Provide clinical leadership and advice to operational and clinical colleagues.
• Identify and manage risk, safeguarding concerns and patient deterioration.
• Contribute to quality improvement, audit and service development projects.
• Support the development of innovative virtual models of care and contribute to the ongoing growth of SECAmb's Virtual Care service.
• Coach, mentor and support colleagues as the service continues to evolve.
• Build expertise in digital healthcare and remote clinical assessment, one of the fastest-growing areas of NHS practice.

Other than in exceptional circumstances, the starting salary for staff new to the NHS will be the bottom point of the band to which they have been appointed.

This is a fully office-based role at our NHS 111/999 contact centres in Medway, Kent or Crawley, West Sussex. Because of 24/7 shift patterns, including nights, applicants should live within about 45-60 minutes of commuting time. Applications outside this distance will not be progressed.

Qualifications
Essential

• Registered Paramedic (HCPC) or Registered Nurse - Adult (NMC) with current professional registration with 2 years post registration experience in an appropriate field
• Evidence of additional professional development relevant to urgent, emergency, unscheduled or virtual care.
• Knowledge of NHS urgent and emergency care pathways.

Experience
Essential

• Experience of autonomous clinical assessment and decision making within an urgent, emergency, community or unscheduled care setting.
• Ability to work independently whilst recognising limits of practice and escalating appropriately.
