Job summaryThis is a fixed-term Junior Clinical Fellow post in Psychiatry, based at Bethlem Royal Hospital within South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The role involves rotating between Croydon Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and Croydon Home Treatment Team, with six months spent in each service. It is a full-time post consisting of 10 programmed activities, including 8 Direct Clinical Care sessions and 2 Supporting Professional Activities sessions, with one day per week dedicated to non-clinical psychiatry-related work such as audit, quality improvement, research, teaching or other professional development. The post holder will contribute to clinical care, join the on-call rota, and be supported to develop their skills and interests within psychiatry.
Main duties of the jobThe main duties of the job are to support the clinical care of patients across Croydon PICU and the Croydon Home Treatment Team. This includes reviewing and managing inpatients or the team caseload, contributing to the day-to-day workload of the service, attending ward rounds, team meetings and CPA meetings, carrying out risk assessments and developing risk management plans, formulating care plans, and supporting patients' physical health through examinations and investigations where appropriate. The post holder will also liaise with GPs, social services, voluntary sector organisations and other professionals inside and outside SLaM, attend external patient meetings, make safeguarding referrals when needed, and maintain clear clinical records, including reports, letters, discharge notifications and summaries. In addition, the role includes participation in audit, quality improvement, research, teaching, clinical governance, reflective practice and relevant team or Trust meetings.

Job responsibilitiesThe post holder will provide clinical support across Croydon PICU and the Croydon Home Treatment Team, including reviewing patients, attending ward rounds and team meetings, completing risk assessments, developing care plans, monitoring physical health, and liaising with GPs and other professionals. They will also keep accurate clinical records, make safeguarding referrals where needed, and contribute to audit, quality improvement, teaching, research, clinical governance, appraisal, CPD and mandatory training.
Person SpecificationEssential- Fully registered medical practitioner with licence to practice
- Experience of working as a doctor in the NHS for at least two years
- Higher degree or other qualification in relevant subject to Psychiatry
Desirable- Experience in psychiatric settings
- Experience of being involved in management and Quality Improvement activities
- Experience of teaching undergraduate medical students and staff of other disciplines
- Research experience within medicine
- Publication in a peer reviewed journal
- Presenter on a medical or psychological subject at a conference
