Job summary
We are looking for an experienced, compassionate and motivated Team Manager to lead our Enhanced Team West service and support a dedicated team in delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about mental health, enjoys developing people and can create a positive environment where both colleagues and the people we support can thrive.

About you
We are looking for someone who combines strong leadership skills with genuine compassion and a commitment to improving people's lives.

Ideally, you will have:
  • Experience of supervising or managing a team within mental health, health, social care or a related service
  • A good understanding of person-centred and recovery-focused support
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills
  • An understanding of safeguarding and risk management
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions
  • A positive approach to developing and empowering colleagues
  • Confidence working collaboratively with professionals and partner organisations
  • Be a registered Nurse, Social Worker or Occupational therapist.

Most importantly, you will be a compassionate and approachable leader who can inspire others while keeping the wellbeing, dignity, choices and aspirations of the people we support at the heart of the service.

Main duties of the job
About the role

As Team Manager, you will provide effective day-to-day leadership to the service, ensuring that people receive safe, respectful and individualised support.

Working closely with colleagues, families, professionals and partner organisations, you will help maintain high standards while promoting recovery, independence, dignity and choice.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading, motivating and supporting a team of colleagues
  • Providing regular supervision, coaching and performance support
  • Ensuring consistently high standards of person-centred care and support
  • Promoting a positive, inclusive and supportive team culture
  • Supporting effective risk management and safeguarding practice
  • Overseeing care and support plans and ensuring they reflect individual needs and goals
  • Managing staffing, rotas and day-to-day operational requirements
  • Supporting recruitment, induction and ongoing colleague development
  • Monitoring service quality and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Building positive relationships with families, health and social care professionals and other partners
  • Ensuring the service works in line with relevant organisational policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Responding calmly and professionally to challenging or changing situations

Job responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY
The Post holder will be responsible for the effective day to day delivery of integrated community mental health services within the designated team area.

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management of resources and staff employed by both SWYPFT and integrated partners with agreed permissions framework to act in conjunction with service managers for both health and social services.

The post holder will be expected to have strong clinical and leadership skills and be responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality community mental health services.

KEY RESULT AREAS:
Management and Resources
The Team Leader will manage allocated resources on behalf of the trust and local authority to ensure that fundamentals of care are delivered.

Competencies
  • Provide day to day management of all staff within the community team including sickness and absence monitoring, conduct and performance etc.
  • Ensure that team resources are deployed appropriately to meet the day to day demands on the service.
  • Ensure service provision meets the individual needs of service users and their carers within the personalisation, prevention and recovery agenda.
  • Ensure that the service observes the legal and philosophical requirements of national legislative frameworks.
  • Monitor the quality and appropriateness of service provision.
  • Monitor team budgets and take measures to ensure that they remain within agreed establishments, alerting the budget holder of current or expected budget pressures.
  • In conjunction with the local funding agreements, authorise appropriate use of community care budgets to purchase community care packages which have been developed thorough quality assessment and care planning process.
  • Ensure the provision of supervision and caseload management for team members in line with appropriate line management structure.
  • Ensure staff management and appraisal systems are implemented and monitored as required by the trust and local authority.
  • Ensure that team members meet professional and statutory obligations and comply with trust and local authority policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that trust and local authority performance requirements are met and necessary data is collected, using electronic information as required.
  • Ensure appropriate trust and local authority procedures are carried out under the agreed multi agency safeguarding procedures.
  • Ensure service user and carer influence and involvement in planning and evaluating interventions and services.
  • Participate in local service planning and development.
  • Lead in the recruitment and retention of staff within the team.
  • Undertake HR and system investigations and write reports that will evidence the investigation and support higher level decision making.

Essential
  • Able to undertake and meet the key results areas for the post.
  • Has advanced knowledge and proven ability in current mental health practice and national policy and guidance
  • Able to exercise leadership by personal example, demonstrating respect, openness and reliability, and able to foster these characteristics within the team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills that foster good working relationships and understanding in others.
  • Able to implement and manage changes to internal systems to a reasonable conclusion.
  • Able to analyse problems and identify and implement strategies that will resolve them.
  • Able to write evidence based reports that support higher level decision making.

Desirable
  • Knowledge and skills in specialist areas such as dual diagnosis, peri-natal mental health, working with people experiencing psychosis, working with people with a diagnosis or personality disorder, working with people with co-existing mental and physical health needs that impacts on well-being.

Essential
  • A Current driving licence and access to a car during the working day is essential (reasonable adjustments will be considered for any applicants who are unable to drive due to a disability)

Experience
Essential
  • Proven ability of post-basic clinical practice.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience.
  • Highly skilled at assessing and managing people with mental health needs
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of skill in supporting/mentoring/supervising staff and students/trainees.
  • Knowledge and evidence of using IT systems
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of skill in assessing and managing risk in a variety of settings
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of skill in assessing the needs and strengths of people and their carers
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of skill in delivering a range of therapeutic techniques
  • Proven ability to support team members with day-to-day caseload management including prioritisation of responsibilities in times of high clinical demand.
  • Proven ability to promote and develop links with other professionals e.g. practitioners within long term conditions, primary care
  • Evidence of knowledge and application in practice of national guidance and standards e.g. NICE, CQC, CQUINS
  • Using and implementing clinical governance systems.
  • Experience of chairing meetings.
  • Experience of providing and receiving supervision and appraisal.

Qualifications
Essential
  • RMN / RN Mental Health, or DipSW / CQSW / CSS or OT.
  • Relevant graduate qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience of mentoring/supporting learners or ability to demonstrate the skills required for effective mentoring.
  • Practice Education/Practice Assessor Preparation Certificate

Desirable
  • Management Qualification related to health and social care
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification

Essential
  • Ability to undertake the duties and demands of the post. A satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years (subject to the need to act with fairness and equality of opportunity, particularly where the sickness is related to a disability and/or pregnancy).

Training
Essential
  • Relevant post qualification training / learning in professional field.
  • Willingness to maintain mandatory training requirements

Desirable
  • Safeguarding manager and/or investigators training
