Job summary
Claire House Surgery is seeking a compassionate and proactive Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to support the delivery of high-quality patient care within our busy GP surgery. Working strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.

Main duties of the job

• Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual.
• Phlebotomy
• Working under a PSD to deliver vaccinations
• Management of Long Term Conditions
• Chaperoning duties
• Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
• Maintenance of clinical equipment
• Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
• Clinical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
• Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
• Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions
• Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
• Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
• Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Job responsibilities

• Phlebotomy (taking blood samples)
• Blood pressure checks
• ECGs
• NHS Health Checks
• Routine health screening
• Chronic disease monitoring support
• Administering B12 injections, Shingles, Pneumococcal and flu vaccinations (if appropriately trained)
• Assisting with minor surgery and clinics
• Maintaining clinical equipment and stock
• Updating patient records accurately on the clinical system
• Supporting the nursing team and GPs as required
• Promoting health education and wellbeing

Qualifications
Essential

• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification)

Experience
Essential

• Previous experience in a General Practice or Primary Care setting
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Compassionate, patient-focused approach
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Good organisational and time-management skills
• IT skills and ability to use clinical systems (training provided)
• Commitment to patient confidentiality and data protection
• Commitment to undertake additional training to meet the requirements of the role of a Healthcare Assistant in General Practice

Desirable

• Phlebotomy, ECG, and vaccination experience.
• Understanding of infection control, health and safety, and safeguarding procedures
