We are an independent local charity based in Bosham, Chichester offering a wide range of services to support our patients, and their loved ones, who are living with a life limiting or terminal illness. The work we do makes a real difference to the lives of local people and we support over 330 patients at any one time between our In Patient Unit and Community teams.

Main duties of the job
Being a Senior RGN in the IPU Team

Part-Time | 30 37.5 hours per week | Mainly day shifts with occasional nights | Weekends at least 1 in 3

We are excited to offer a rewarding opportunity for a Senior Registered Nurse to join our dedicated Inpatient Unit Team. Our Hospice IPU Team cares for patients who have been admitted to our Inpatient Unit here at the hospice. This role gives you the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families, delivering exceptional palliative and end-of-life care.

This role can be either full-time (37.5 hours) or part-time (30 hours), with shifts consisting of long days (11.75 hours) and/or short days (7.5 hours). While the role is mainly day shifts, there may be occasional night shifts and weekend working (at least 1 in 3 weekends) as part of the rota.

As a Senior Registered Nurse, you will lead by example, providing clinical expertise and ensuring the highest standards of person-centred nursing care. You will play a vital role in coordinating complex care needs, supporting patients and their families with compassion, and promoting a safe, seamless, and supportive care environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • To provide skilled nursing care to patients in need of specialist palliative end of life care, and support loved ones pre and post bereavement.
  • Provide proactive, safe, and seamless quality nursing care to patients, co-ordinating their care needs facilitating a supportive, caring and compassionate environment.
  • To demonstrate high standards of person-centred care and leadership of clinical expertise, acting as a mentor to supervise members of the nursing team including students and volunteers
  • Act as the shift coordinator on a regular basis ,be the point of contact for clinical decision making alongside supervising on and co-ordinating the work of nursing staff
  • Responsible for team of colleagues, completing their appraisals, regular 1:1s and monitoring and completing sickness interviews.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Relevant degree, diploma, or equivalent nursing qualification and active NMC registration
  • Post-basic qualification in cancer/palliative care (or working towards one)
  • Post-registration experience at Band 5 or above in cancer, palliative care, or a related specialty
  • Advanced communication skills for end-of-life conversations, advance care planning, and ReSPECT documentation
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, able to coordinate staff, volunteers, and patient care
  • Right to Work in the UK is essential
