The post is offered on a full-time basis; flexible working may be considered after discussion with the Clinical Director and depending on service needs.
Be part of the Consultant Cardiology team.
Manage cardiology patients on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
Be part of the cardiology Consultant of the Week ("COW") rota.
The post is intended to support specialist echocardiography services. The ideal candidate will have an interest and be able to work independently in echocardiography, including stress echo.
Participate in audit, clinical governance, annual job plan, and appraisal.
Triage referrals from primary care, supporting an "advice first" (+/- test only) approach when clinically appropriate.
Develop the Cardiology services and department. The post holder may therefore be expected to support the Clinical Director and Directorate Manager with business cases for various service developments.
Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
Conduct teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity.

Responsible for maintaining awareness of & acting in accordance with professional guidelines such as "Duties of a Doctor", "Good Medical Practice" & the "GMC Performance Procedures."

QualificationsEssential- Primary medical qualification (MBChB or equivalent)
- Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a license to practice
- MRCP or equivalent
- On specialist register for Cardiology or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview
Desirable- Higher medical or biomedical degree (MD or PhD) or previous research experience
Clinical Experience/ SkillsEssential- Substantial experience in Cardiology
- Ability to provide an expert opinion and to work as an independent practitioner in Cardiology
- Ability to practice Evidence Based Medicine
- BSE accreditation (or equivalent) - independent in echo (plain and stress)
Desirable- Subspecialty experience to complement the needs of the department
- Ability to set up or develop a specialist service oIndependent in TOE
- Level 2 (experienced) cardiac CT accreditation (BSCI/BSCCT or equivalent)
ResearchEssential- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
Desirable- Experience of research related to Cardiology.
- First-author papers relating to Cardiology in high- quality peer-reviewed journals.
Management/ Leadership/ QualityEssential- Experience in performing clinical audit
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team (MDT)
Desirable- Demonstrable leadership and management experience
TeachingEssential- Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors
Desirable- To have the ability and willingness to teach at all levels and to all groups of staff
Personal AttributesEssential- Excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in multi-professional team
- Ability to manage difficult patient interviews with tact and sensitivity
Desirable- Evidence of participation in appraisal
