Job summary
We are seeking a skilled, compassionate, and experienced qualified Lead Practice Nurse to join the Bridge Group Practice on a part-time basis. You will be required to work across both sites: Elliott Chappell Health Centre and The Orchard Centre. The hours are 22.5 per week working over 3 days, 2 of which must be a Monday and a Friday.

You will play a vital part in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care, preventative health services, and supporting innovation in primary care.

Main duties of the job
The Role
As our Lead Practice Nurse, you will balance expert clinical delivery with inspirational leadership. You will manage our nursing team (including Practice Nurses, HCAs, and Phlebotomists) while working closely with GP Partners and management to shape primary care services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Manage staff rotas, conduct appraisals, and mentor nursing staff to foster professional growth.
  • Clinical Excellence: Deliver expert care in chronic disease management (diabetes, respiratory care) and preventative health (immunisations, cytology).
  • Governance & Compliance: Act as the lead for Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and ensure continuous CQC readiness.
  • Service Development: Lead clinical audits, update practice protocols, and implement innovative primary care initiatives.

What We Are Looking For
  • Registration: Current, valid NMC Registered Nurse status.
  • Experience: Substantial experience in a GP practice with prior supervisory or leadership responsibilities.
  • Qualifications: Certified in cervical cytology, paediatric immunisations, and chronic disease management (Non-Medical Prescribing V300 is highly desirable but, not essential).
  • Systems: Proficiency in primary care software, ideally SystmOne.

The Bridge Group Practice is a forward-thinking, friendly GP practice serving a diverse patient list of 9,000 patients. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. We are looking for an experienced, visionary Lead Nurse to inspire our clinical team and drive excellence across our nursing services.

Our clinical team currently comprise of 4 GP Partners, 2 Advanced Nurse practitioners, 3 part time Practice Nurses (one due to retire), 1 Nurse Associate, and 2 HCAs.

Job responsibilities
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced clinical leader to oversee the delivery of high-quality nursing services within our practice.

The role involves providing contraceptive care (including pill checks and injections), coordinating treatments under Patient Group Directions (PGDs), and offering health promotion advice on lifestyle. The postholder will support patients with long-term conditions specialising in diabetes management and medication adherence, while maintaining accurate clinical records.

As a team leader, they will manage practice nurses, healthcare assistants, and phlebotomists conducting appraisals, planning leave, leading recruitment and induction, and facilitating regular team meetings. They will ensure safe delegation of clinical duties and support staff with mandatory training and CPD.

Acting as the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Lead, they will conduct audits, deliver training, and ensure compliance with clinical standards and CQC requirements. The role also includes leading quality improvement initiatives, managing vaccine protocols, and participating in significant event reviews.

Collaboratively, they will work with GPs and the Practice Manager to develop services, contribute to Enhanced Services and QOF targets, liaise with external agencies, and represent the nursing team in multidisciplinary meetings responding proactively to national policy changes and embedding best practice.

Person Specification
Experience
Essential
  • Substantial experience in a GP practice with prior supervisory or leadership responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in primary care software, ideally SystmOne.

Desirable
  • Experience with SystmOne

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMC registration.
  • Certified in cervical cytology, paediatric immunisations, and chronic disease management
  • Training in asthma, COPD, diabetes and vaccinations.

Desirable
  • Non-Medical Prescribing V300 is highly desirable but, not essential.
  • Training in travel health
