Community Physiotherapist – Witney and West Oxfordshire

Covering: A weekly session at a care home in Witney, plus home visits across Witney, Carterton, Eynsham, Woodstock, Long Hanborough, Bampton, Burford and the surrounding villages

Pay: £41 per hour + 45p per mile

Hours: Employed and on payroll. Starting with a regular weekly care home session and building to anything from 3 hours to 2 days a week.

Who we are
We are The Caring Physio. We provide physiotherapy in people’s own homes, for those who find it difficult to get to a clinic. Most of our patients are older, though we see people of all ages, and our focus is on helping them regain their independence by working on the things they struggle to do at home.

Many come to us while they are waiting for support that has not yet arrived, or that has arrived and is not enough. They are recovering from an illness, an operation, a fall or a stay in hospital, and they are looking for more help than they have been given.

We are looking for kind and compassionate physiotherapists who go the extra mile for their patients. Listening carefully to someone’s needs and concerns, working out how to solve the problems standing in the way, and giving them encouragement and confidence — that is what the role is about.

The area
We are looking for someone to join our Oxfordshire team and open up West Oxfordshire for us.

We will be straight with you about the shape of this one. It begins as a regular weekly session of around 1.5 hours at a care home in Witney — a small, dependable commitment in your diary. Alongside it sits the reason we are advertising: we take enquiries across West Oxfordshire that we currently cannot serve, and the physiotherapist who takes this role is the person those visits go to first. This is a caseload to build, and there is room here for anything from 3 hours to 2 days per week.

So this suits one of two people. Either you already work locally and want a fixed, well-paid hour and a half a week that fits around what you do. Or you want to build a community caseload in this part of Oxfordshire from the ground up, and you are happy to start with the care home and grow.

The John Radcliffe and the Churchill send people home across this area every week, and Witney Community Hospital picks up part of the recovery. The rest happens at home, and that is where we come in.

Being straight about the driving. This is a town-and-villages area, running out towards Burford and the Cotswolds. Some days your visits will sit close together; other days one will be a fair drive from the last. We pay 45p a mile and we build your diary around where you live.

You are never alone
This is what makes us different from an agency, and it is the part we care most about.

• A genuinely supportive team. Our Home Physio Coordinator, our Staff Development Coordinator and our Clinical Lead all still practise as home physiotherapists themselves. They know the job because they do it, and they are there to make yours as smooth and as enjoyable as possible.
• Colleagues who have seen it before. Our team includes former Band 7 specialists in neurology, amputee rehabilitation, respiratory and care of the elderly. When you meet something you have not met before, someone here has.
• Regular CPD. We run CPD regularly and we fund learning, because we are trying to become genuinely expert at this rather than simply staffed for it.
• Flexible and autonomous. You decide your own diary, and you advise your patients to be seen as often as you think they need. We are not constrained by time measures. Building rapport and a professional relationship with your patients and their families is important to us, and that takes the time it takes.

What we offer

• £41 per hour, plus 45p per mile.
• Employed and on payroll, with paid annual leave and sick pay, and the option to join our pension scheme depending on your level of work.

• Room to grow. We already have enquiries in West Oxfordshire we cannot currently take. Tell us how much you want — anything from 3 hours to 2 days a week — and we will send the work your way.
• Your own caseload and your own diary, with everything above behind you.

Who we are looking for

• Experience. A minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience as a physiotherapist, including at least 2 years in the NHS.
• Clinical background. Experience in care of the elderly, frailty, neurology and orthopaedics is essential. Comfort working with frail older adults in a care home setting is important.
• Rotational grounding. You will be working alone in the community, so we particularly value physiotherapists who have completed core rotations across all the major divisions of the NHS. When you are the only clinician in the house, that breadth is what lets you make a safe call.
• The person. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, patience, and the ability to problem-solve. You will be in someone’s home, often with family in the room, working out how to make a rehabilitation plan happen in a house that was never designed as a gym.
• Registration. Current HCPC registration.
• Right to work. You must have the right to work in the UK. We are not able to offer visa sponsorship.
• Logistics. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
