Description

Job summary
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated ambitious individual to join a well- integrated team.

The post will commence on 01/11/2026 for a fixed 12 month contract. The post is for 30 hours per week with no on-call.

This role is an excellent opportunity for an FY2-level doctor seeking to gain valuable experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics, particularly as a first NHS post. The successful candidate will be appointed to a 12-month fixed-term contract and will primarily provide ward-based care for patients on the trauma ward, working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team. In addition to developing core skills in the management of acute orthopaedic and trauma patients, there will be opportunities to attend outpatient clinics and operating theatre sessions to enhance clinical knowledge and gain exposure to a broad range of orthopaedic conditions and procedures. This post is particularly suitable for doctors at FY2 level and for international medical graduates seeking their first NHS experience within a supportive learning environment.

Main duties of the job
You will be an active part of the orthopaedic rota at RVI and work closely with the trauma team. Clinical and research opportunities are available.

About us
As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you. Speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

With around 2 million contacts with patients every year, we deliver care from:
  • Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI)
  • Freeman Hospital
  • Newcastle Dental Hospital
  • Cramlington Manor Walks
  • Urgent treatment centres
  • Newcastle Fertility Centre
  • Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria
  • Northern Genetics Service

These include a range of flagship services which deliver cutting-edge care (supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic services in both radiology and pathology) and are a catalyst for innovation to support pioneering clinical practice in the NHS.

We also have offices at Regent Point in Gosforth and community sites.

Please see attached information on what Staff Benefits we have to offer at our Trust under 'Documents to download' or 'Supporting documents'.
