Job Summary
The appointee will join an enthusiastic and friendly Respiratory Medicine team, part of the Division of Emergency Care and Medicine at the QEH. Respiratory inpatients are cared for on Necton ward with 32 beds, including a dedicated NIV bay. Two respiratory teams divide patients, with additional consultants handling ward referrals and acute medical in-reach. Outpatient work and lung cancer referrals are shared among four consultants. The team performs two bronchoscopy/EBUS lists and one pleural clinic weekly, and actively participates in local and national audits.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Take consultant responsibility for allocated inpatients, supported by a junior doctor team on the respiratory ward.
  • Provide consultant-led in-reach service to ward and acute medicine referrals.
  • Conduct general respiratory outpatient clinics and lung cancer clinics.
  • Maintain effective communication and handover to the on-call team.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to develop local respiratory services.
  • Participate in the weekend General Medical on-call rota (currently 1 in 18) and weekday night on-call.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • MRCP.
Desirable
  • Other professional qualification or higher degree e.g. in medical education, clinical research or management.
Experience
Essential
  • Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Respiratory Medicine.
Desirable
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) at time of interview.
