Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust as Ward Manager for Ward A7, our 16-bedded specialist Haematology inpatient unit.The Ward Manager will provide visible clinical, professional and operational leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred care for patients with a range of haematological conditions. The post holder will hold accountability for the ward, leading a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care whilst maintaining patient safety, positive patient experience and effective service delivery. The Ward Manager will oversee the management of Ward A7, ensuring effective patient flow, safe staffing, workforce development and achievement of key quality and performance standards.The post holder will lead on clinical governance, quality improvement and service development, ensuring compliance with Trust policies, professional standards and regulatory requirements. They will promote a culture of continuous improvement, supporting staff wellbeing, education and professional development.A key aspect of the role is supporting partnership working with Barnsley Hospital, facilitating patient transfers and service improvements that enhance patient outcomes and experience.The Ward Manager will contribute to the delivery of TRFT's objectives, ensuring Ward A7 continues to provide safe, compassionate and outstanding care
Main duties of the job- Provide clinical, professional and operational leadership for Ward A7, ensuring safe, high-quality, patient-centred haematology care.
- Lead, support and develop the ward team through effective workforce planning, recruitment, appraisal and performance management.
- Ensure safe staffing levels and effective deployment of resources to meet service needs.
- Act as a visible clinical role model, promoting evidence-based practice and high standards of care.
- Lead on patient safety, clinical governance, risk management and quality improvement initiatives.
- Investigate incidents, complaints and concerns, ensuring learning and service improvements are embedded.
- Monitor and improve quality standards, patient experience and infection prevention and control measures.
- Oversee patient flow, discharge planning and coordination of care across the patient pathway.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and partner organisations to improve patient outcomes.
- Support staff education, training, competency development and the creation of a positive learning environment.
- Ensure compliance with Trust policies, professional standards and statutory requirements.
- Lead audit, service development and improvement activities.
- Manage ward resources and budgets efficiently and effectively.
- Deputise for the Matron as required and contribute to Care Group and Trust objectives.
- Promote TRFT values, staff wellbeing and a culture of continuous improvement.

Person specificationExperienceDesirable- Recruitment and selection experience
- Presenting complex information to large groups
- Experience of working at band 6 and proven ability to take charge of the ward or department demonstrating effective leadership skills
- Demonstrable experience in Haematology
- Management training/ Specialist / experience
RegistrationEssential- Current level one NMC registration
KnowledgeEssential- Commitment to continuous personal development for revalidation NMC
- Policies, practices and procedures e.g. NHS national policies, standards, requirements and directions that relate to measuring and improving the quality and safety of patient care
QualificationsEssential- Relevant learning beyond registration
- Level 2 Haematology Qualification or working towards
- Competent in administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy and blood components
Desirable- Evidence of Academic achievement, working towards Degree level of study
- Teaching/Mentorship Qualification
