The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and ambitious Senior Clinical Fellow to join our well-established and supportive Urology team, based at Rotherham Hospital.

Our Urology department provides a comprehensive service across the major sub-specialties.

You will join a team of 5 consultants, 2 specialty doctors, and a strong training complement (2 Senior Clinical Fellows - including this post, a Core Surgical Trainee and 2 Foundation Trainees) supported by 2 Advanced Nurse Specialists, 4 Cancer Nurse Specialists and a dedicated Andrology Cancer Nurse Specialist.

This post offers a registrar equivalent training and operative experience with a particular focus on stone disease and endourology, including URS, laser fragmentation and PCNL alongside broad exposure to general urology. It is well suited to a candidate looking to build a competitive CV for higher surgical training or sub-specialty fellowship, with support for audit, research and presentation at national meetings. Flexibility to support the wider needs of the department including outpatient clinics, theatre lists, MDT meetings and emergency cover is essential.

Main Duties

• Provide comprehensive elective and emergency urology care for in-patients and out-patients at a registrar-equivalent level of responsibility
• Participate in the middle-grade out-of-hours on-call rota alongside consultant colleagues
• Support the day-to-day supervision and training of Core Surgical and Foundation trainees on the ward and in theatre
• Lead and participate in audit, research and clinical governance projects, including presentation and publication where possible
• Develop advanced operative skills in stone disease and endourology under consultant supervision, contributing to the departments stone/stent service

Job responsibilities
We are looking to recruit a talented individual to join our urology team. This role will provide opportunity for the applicant to gain clinical experience in the management of urological conditions and in undertaking core urological procedures and access to more specialist procedures like complex ureteric stone surgery working as part of a friendly and supportive multi-disciplinary team. We will support any candidate who is motivated further their career, including support in obtaining Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) in a trust recognised for providing excellent training opportunities and with a proven track record of success in the CESR process.

Our team are proud to provide the treatment of a full spectrum of urological problems, including minimal invasive procedures such as Rezum, bladder cancer treatment and follow up, ureteric stone procedures and selected paediatric procedures.

We do encourage and support our candidate to further their career, by supporting them to sit FRCS exams and article 14 CESR route entry on to the specialist register.

This job is to provide service and training in treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy , stone disease, general and paediatric urology , follow up, and diagnosis of bladder and prostate cancer.

The duties of a successful candidate would include undertaking the daily ward round with direct consultant supervision, reviewing non-elective urology patients on the Acute Surgical Unit, supervised clinics, endoscopy, and theatre sessions with consultants. The opportunities for training and learning are plentiful and distributed throughout the activities.

The successful applicant would be supported to further develop clinical and procedural skills, and if capable could be given opportunity to have independent theatre sessions with consultant support.

The successful candidate is also encouraged to engage in junior staff teaching and would be allocated a named consultant for advice and guidance. The department provides opportunities for participation in audit and research, management and leadership as well as participating in and contributing towards education and learning within the team and the wider trust.

The primary clinical responsibilities of the post-holder are:

• To provide a Urology service for inpatient and outpatient services and for the proper functioning of the department in collaboration with the other members of the urology team.
• To provide ASU cover and be non-resident 2nd oncall out of hours for urology cases
• To attend daily ward rounds, clinics and theatre
• Provide weekend on site cover 08:00-16:00 for urology ward round and ASU patient review
• To support with other Medics and further develop the out-patient service and the in-patient service.
• Responsible for the Management of Junior Medical Staff, carrying out Teaching, Examination and Accreditation duties as required, and contributing to Postgraduate and continuing Medical Education activity locally, regionally and nationally as appropriate.
• To provide, with the other Medics in the specialty, cover for annual, study and professional leave when the rota allows under the direction of the Clinical Lead
• The post holder will be expected and encouraged to carry out research and clinical audit activities, as an inherent part of normal clinical duties including attendance at MDT meetings.

On-call/Full Shift duties
Full time job with 1:5 out of hours commitments as non-resident oncall, and onsite cover at weekends 08:00-16:00.
