Job summary
An exciting opportunity has been created within the Haematology Clinical Specialist nursing team for two additional Nurse Practitioners to support development of patient care. These posts have been funded with Cancer Transformation monies and offer an exciting opportunity for an existing experienced Haematology nurse to expand their practice and develop their skills and practice.

This will be a largely autonomous role and will support sub specialities within the Haematology caseload, depending on the existing skillset of the successful candidate. You will be working alongside a team of other supportive Haematology specialist nurses including 2 other Haematology Nurse Practitioners with patient portfolios of their own.

You will be expected to manage your own caseload of patients, including some new patient caseload, offer your clinical expertise, advice, and clinical skill to ensure the smooth running of the department and clinics, and make sure that high standards of care are delivered. This will include working as part of the team within clinical settings and managing this on a daily basis.

You will therefore have advanced physical assessment skills and be a non medical prescriber or willingness to undertake as soon as possible. It is expected that you will need to work cross site at times in order to provide clinic support therefore ability to travel cross site is essential.

Main duties of the job
Alongside the delivery of expert high-quality care to patients, the post holder will exercise a high degree of personal independence and professional autonomy and will take responsibility for the following areas:
  • To lead a comprehensive highly specialist nursing service for patients receiving care across the haematology pathway
  • Nurse led clinics, utilising clinical examination skills, non-medical prescribing, and order of diagnostics investigations with management of results.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to manage the haematology pathway
  • Collaborating and working with the MDT and wider MDT, ensuring a high-quality integrated service which meets local, regional and national standards
  • Provide expert patient care from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care
  • Provide expert knowledge and understanding of haematological diseases and associated treatments.
  • Produce accurate, contemporaneous and complete records of patient consultation, consistent with legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the development of local guidelines, protocols and standards for diagnostic pathway.
  • Take responsibility for the management of patients within own caseload and supervision/development of junior members of the multi-professional team.
