Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our Inpatient Stroke and Rehabilitation Team.

The post is full time 37.5 hours, across Monday to Friday with participation in a weekend rota.

This service provides therapy to stroke patients in the inpatient setting

Our Stroke and Rehabilitation team is a friendly and dynamic group of Speech Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Therapy support workers, Assistant Practitioners and Dietitian.As such, this role offers a great opportunity to work with a broad range of professions to drive forward excellent integrated stroke care for the patient's we serve.

The successful candidate must have experience of working with adults with complex acquired disorders of communication and swallowing. We are looking for an individual who has an excellent understanding of evidenced based-practice within the speciality of stroke rehabilitation. The ability to influence and implement best-practice, to ensure we are continuously improving the quality of services provided to patients across the pathways.

The post holder will be responsible for the clinical supervision and mentorship of Band 5 SLT , SLT students and Therapy Support Worker/ Assistant Practitioners. You will be required to deliver training within our therapy structure.

Main duties of the job

• Assess, diagnose and treat patients with complex conditions, creating personalised treatment plans to meet their needs.
• Work closely with doctors, nurses, therapists and other healthcare professionals to support safe care and timely patient discharge.
• Manage and prioritise a specialist caseload, making independent clinical decisions and adapting plans when needs change.
• Provide expert advice and support to colleagues, patients and carers, using clear and compassionate communication.
• Support the development of staff and students through training, supervision, mentoring and sharing specialist knowledge.
• Contribute to service improvement by taking part in audits, maintaining high professional standards and helping to develop effective ways of working.

• Evidence of experience in relevant area of clinical practice, including dysphagia, and exposure/competencies in video fluoroscopy and tracheostomy

• Experience in audit and research
