Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) team at Lincoln County Hospital. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to contribute to the delivery and continued development of our ENT service.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Resident Doctor to join the ENT Department. The successful candidate will be expected to work at a level equivalent to a first-year ENT Registrar; therefore, previous experience within ENT is essential. While this post is aligned to an IMT3-level position, applications are welcomed from candidates with previous ENT Specialty Registrar (SpR) experience.

Although this is not a recognised training post, the successful applicant will be assigned an Educational Supervisor and supported in completing workplace-based assessments aligned to the ENT curriculum competencies. The post holder will be encouraged to participate in the Trust's educational and teaching programmes and will have opportunities for exposure to a range of ENT subspecialties, supporting professional development, career progression, and future applications to specialty training programmes.

Main duties of the job
Core Duties
  • Undertake ward rounds and provide middle-grade support for inpatient ENT services.
  • Assess and manage acute ENT referrals from the Emergency Department, General Practice, and other hospital specialties.
  • Participate in ENT outpatient clinics, including new patient, follow-up, and urgent referral clinics as appropriate.
  • Gain experience and training opportunities across a broad range of ENT subspecialties, in line with previous experience and individual development needs.
  • Participate in elective and emergency ENT theatre sessions, undertaking diagnostic and therapeutic procedures appropriate to level of experience and competency.
  • Support the management of inpatients, day-case patients, and emergency admissions within the ENT service.
  • Contribute to the delivery of any out-of-hours, weekend, or on-call ENT services in accordance with service requirements and contractual arrangements.
  • Complete discharge summaries, clinic letters, operative notes, and other clinical documentation in a timely manner.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical governance activities, audit, and quality improvement projects.
  • Contribute to the teaching and training of junior doctors, medical students, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Engage fully in continuing professional development and educational opportunities within the Trust to support career progression and future specialty training applications.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Current valid Full registration with the GMC & licence to practise
  • MRCP (UK) at least Part 1 or MRCEM or equivalent
  • Current ALS provider

Clinical Experience
Essential
  • Clinical Training and experience equivalent to that of an CT2+ Doctor
  • At least 3 years' experience post foundation, including at least 4 months in Cardiology
  • Demonstrates awareness of managing acute medical conditions, including emergencies, in patients and outpatients
  • Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients and lead junior staff members
  • Ability to perform medical procedures expected at completion of CMT2, e.g. pleural tap, chest drain, ascetic drain, lumbar puncture etc

Desirable
  • 6+ months of prior Cardiology experience
  • Practical experience in Cardiology tests and procedures
  • Previous experience in Intensive Care medicine, Emergency medicine and Renal Medicine
  • Post registration experience working in other specialties relevant to the role

Teaching & Training
Essential
  • Experience of teaching & training junior doctors and other professional staff
