The post holder will commit to undertaking a rotation around the inpatients wards within the maternity unit. Options include Delivery Suite and obstetric theatre, High Dependency Unit, Birthing Centre which include 2 birthing pools, inpatient antenatal ward, triage unit, postnatal care unit with transitional care cots and antenatal clinic. There are opportunities to work within community-based services, Fetal Medicine Unit as well as an array of specialists areas.
Main duties of the job- o The post holder will work as a midwife and will rotate across all areas of the maternity unit.
- o To work according to the NMC Code and relevant professional guidelines as a midwife with facilitation for a defined group of women and their babies with minimal supervision in the Maternity Care setting.
- o The assessment of care and health education needs of women and their babies
- o To maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation programmes of care within the necessary framework
- o To develop leadership skills and experience in the management of the ward/department.
- o To promote and participate in the implementation of the UCLH Nursing Midwifery strategy:
- o Reviewing midwifery practice and implementing appropriate changes based on research/best practice.
- o Developing and implementing Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives.
- o To participate in training programmes as appropriate and to teach and act as a facilitator/preceptor to midwifery or non-midwifery staff.
- o To promote and maintain effective communication.
- o Create a supportive blame-free environment for staff and women

Person SpecificationKnowledge and QualificationsEssential- Registered midwife
- Educated to Degree Level
- Completed a 12-months preceptorship programme
- Up to date knowledge of professional nursing and midwifery issues
Desirable- Neonatal course of relevant experience
