Main duties of the jobAs Deputy Charge Nurse in our Emergency Department, you will take a lead role in ensuring the safe, high-quality care of patients attending University College Hospital as emergencies. Key responsibilities include: Taking charge of the Emergency Department on a shift-by-shift basis alongside the Consultant in Charge, managing and supervising nursing staff to maintain safe, effective care delivery. Supporting Senior Nurses and Charge Nurses to maintain quality of care and performance against Care Quality Indicators (CQIs) for Emergency Services. Acting as Named Nurse for a defined patient group, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating holistic, patient-centred care programmes including discharge planning. Line managing a small team of Band 3-6 staff, including appraisals, sickness management and performance monitoring, supported by your Band 7 Team Leader. Mentoring, precepting and supporting the educational development of junior nursing staff and students, working closely with the Clinical Practice Facilitator team. Contributing to quality improvement, audit and risk management initiatives, and supporting the Trust's response to major incidents (MAJAX) as required.

Person SpecificationKnowledge & Qualifications- Registered Nurse Part 1, 2 or relevant section of the register
- Level 2 Trauma Course - University/ATNC/TNCC/ETC
- A&E Course/Capital Nurse QIS
- Degree
- Completion of RCN level 1 and Level 2 Competancies. Completion of NMTNG Level 2 Competencies.
- ALS course
- Triage trained
Experience- Substantial experience in Emergency Nursing - part of which might be at Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse level in an acute Emergency department.
- Leadership experience - leading clinical areas without supervision
- mentoring and supporting junior staff
Communication- Communicates effectively verbally, in writing and in electronic formats
Personal And People Development- Demonstrates evidence of professional development in line with KSF, maintains updated Portfolio
