Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and forward-thinking pharmacist to join UCLH as Lead Clinical Pharmacist for HIV, GUM and Infection. This is a 15-hour-per-week job-share role, fixed term until 31 March 2027.

UCLH provides HIV and GUM services for inpatients on a dedicated Infectious Diseases ward, and for outpatients at the Mortimer Market Centre, which is part of Central and North West London (CNWL) NHS Foundation Trust. The Mortimer Market Centre is one of the largest HIV clinics in the UK, with a cohort of over 4,800 HIV-infected patients in London and over 900 patients in Surrey.

The Infectious Diseases service is provided within the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, which is part of UCLH and is one of only two nationally commissioned Tropical Medicine services, and provides a service to long and short term travellers, immigrants and refugee populations. It also provides the clinical infectious disease service for UCLH, including OPAT services, and houses the National Network for Travel Medicine. It provides a national tertiary referral service for many travel-related infections.

Working across these nationally recognised services, you will have the opportunity to shape medicines optimisation, lead service improvement and support research. You will join a highly regarded Pharmacy Department with strong links to UCL, CNWL and the wider health system.

Main duties of the job
Working alongside your job-share partner, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for clinical pharmacy services to the Mortimer Market Centre and UCLH infection services. You will provide expert advice on medicines used in HIV, GUM, hepatitis and infectious and tropical diseases, working closely with medical, nursing, pharmacy and wider multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and ensure the safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of medicines across inpatient, outpatient and homecare pathways.

You will lead medicines-related governance and assurance across UCLH and CNWL services, including incident review, policy and guideline development, risk management, service monitoring and evaluation. You will also oversee medicines homecare arrangements for HIV patients, support high-cost medicines management and provide evaluated financial information to inform service and prescribing decisions. You will identify and lead improvement projects, audit and service evaluation.

As part of our broader clinical pharmacy team, you will contribute to the implementation and analysis of local and national initiatives to further develop our services. You will also participate in the delivery of educational and developmental programmes, including UCL School of Pharmacy undergraduate clinical placements, the JPB Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice, and our rotational programme for band 7 clinical pharmacists.

• Minimum of four years experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner Six years post registration
• Broad clinical experience within general surgery and general medicine Specialist clinical experience of HIV, GUM and/or Infectious Disease
• Diploma or MSc in clinical pharmacy
