Main duties of the job

The South East Neonatal Network is recruiting part-time Network Educators to support the delivery of the Qualified in Specialty (QIS) Programme and a range of other educational initiatives across the region.

This is an exciting opportunity for experienced neonatal professionals to influence education and workforce development at a regional level, supporting learners, educators and services to deliver safe, effective, compassionate and evidence-based neonatal care.

Working as part of the South East Neonatal Network Education Team, you will contribute to the design, delivery and evaluation of education programmes, support practice learning environments, and provide educational guidance to learners and colleagues across the network. You will work collaboratively with neonatal units, Higher Education Institutions and key stakeholders to support workforce development and improve learning experiences across the South East.

The South East Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (SENN ODN) is part of the South East Strategic Network for Critical Care, working collaboratively with neonatal services across Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley and Wessex to improve outcomes and experiences for babies, families and staff. While the role is home-based, regular travel throughout the South East footprint is an essential requirement to support the delivery of education programmes, stakeholder engagement and network activities. Job responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting the planning, coordination and delivery of the regional QIS programme.
• Delivering education using a range of approaches including face-to-face teaching, simulation, coaching and technology-enhanced learning.
• Supporting learners, students, apprentices and registered staff across neonatal services.
• Assessing and monitoring learner progress and supporting the development of competence and confidence in practice.
• Providing mentorship, coaching, feedback and pastoral support to learners.
• Supporting educational governance, quality improvement and evaluation activities.
• Developing and maintaining strong partnerships with neonatal units, universities and other stakeholders across the region.
• Contributing to the continuous development of the South East Neonatal Network education offer.

Working Pattern and Travel Requirements:
These are part-time positions with a combination of remote, virtual and face-to-face working.

Please note that this is a highly mobile role. Regular travel across the South East Neonatal Network is an essential requirement of the post.

The successful candidate will be expected to travel frequently between neonatal units, education venues and partner organisations to deliver education, support learners and attend network activities. Applicants must be able to meet the travel requirements of the role.

Occasional flexibility in working hours may be required to support programme delivery and educational events.

Essential Travel Requirements:

• Able to travel independently and frequently across the South East Neonatal Network footprint to deliver education, support learners and attend network meetings and events.
• Holds a full UK driving licence and has access to suitable transport or can otherwise demonstrate the ability to meet the travel requirements of the role.

• Knowledge of undergraduate, apprenticeship or healthcare support worker education.
• Understanding of the wider healthcare agenda.
• Experience running simulations.
• Simulation trainer qualification.

Person Specification
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential

• Registered Nurse (Adult or Child) on Part 1 of the NMC Register or Registered Midwife
• Professional knowledge acquired through degree education or equivalent experience
• Mentoring / coaching / education qualification to postgraduate diploma level or equivalent evidence of supporting learners in practice
• Evidence of ongoing professional development
• Significant experience within relevant field
• Neonatal Qualified in Specialty Qualification
• Neonatal Life Support Qualification
• Experience of educating others in a formal or informal setting
• Broad awareness of Trust initiatives/pressures
• Experience of undertaking clinical audit

Desirable

• Education at a master's degree level
• Further education at a master's degree level in relevant practice area
• Leadership qualification or significant equivalent experience
• Previous Band 6 experience
• Further evidence of speciality competence
• Evidence of nursing practice development and management of change
