Main duties of the jobThe Ears, Nose and Throat (ENT) team are looking to appoint a speciality doctor to join our Head and Neck Cancer Service. This is a permanent position starting as soon as possible. We are looking for a passionate and dynamic individual looking to expand their skills and knowledge in Head and Neck ENT surgery.
The ENT department is based at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) and includes satellite clinics at the Royal South Hants Hospital in Southampton. You'll work in a multidisciplinary team including close links to our maxillofacial and clinical/medical oncology colleagues. There are 4 full time surgeons and one MIT fellow who make up the head and neck ENT surgical team.

Job responsibilitiesThe speciality doctor is expected to participate in all aspects of the work of the department under the general direction of the consultants, including outpatient and inpatient management of Head and Neck ENT elective and emergency pathways. When on call the speciality doctor will partake in an on-call rota which covers emergency patients across UHS, Salisbury and Winchester under the guidance of a consultant on call. The successful candidate must be able to work unsupervised.

Person SpecificationQualifications, Training & ExperienceEssential- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCS or equivalent
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- Previous experience of working in the NHS
- Minimum of four years at Senior Fellow and/or Specialty Doctor level, at least two of which have been in the appropriate speciality
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in a range of emergency problems within the speciality
- Ability to take responsibility for the emergency care of patients
- A wide range of clinical skills and practice in the speciality
- Ability to work independently
- Documented audit experience
- Extensive experience in Head & Neck Diagnostics including 2WW clinics and diagnostic GA endoscopy
- IT Skills
Desirable- Certification or instructor status in ATLS, ALS, APLS, EPLS, MIMMS and/or post graduate qualifications in ENT surgery
