Job summaryWe are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to apply for a Senior Assistant Technical Officer to work with the Trials Pharmacy Team based at the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital (BHH) site although cross-site working will be a requirement.
The successful applicant will manage the clinical trial medicines dispensed to patients recruited to clinical trials within the Trust. You will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic, multidisciplinary team supporting the provision of the reception and dispensing services within the Trials Pharmacy.
The role requires someone eager to learn, able to organise and prioritise their own work to meet deadlines and able to work using their own initiative.
The successful candidate must have NVQ level 2 certificate in Pharmacy service skills or equivalent and clearly indicate this in the relevant course details within the application.

Main duties of the job- To perform a variety of general pharmacy duties under the supervision of a pharmacist or technician in all aspects of clinical trials medicine management including ordering, receipting, deliveries, dispensing and temperature monitoring of clinical trial medicines.
- To be involved in maintaining financial records, completing drug accountability activities and networking with research teams across the trust and with external representatives.
- To be able to deal with enquires in an efficient, polite and courteous manner. Providing a caring and helpful service to other members of staff, patients, and the general public.
- You will lead in providing excellent customer service, acting as a role model to other members of the dispensary team.

Essential
- NVQ Level 3 Diploma (QCF) in Pharmacy Service Skills and Level 3 Diploma (QCF) in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent as defined by the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain
- Dispensing Accuracy Accreditation, West Midlands scheme or equivalent, or working towards.
- Registered as a Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Accredited Checking Technician West Midlands scheme or equivalent, or working towards.
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working in a hospital setting
- Practical experience of aseptic work
- Working knowledge of a broad range of medicines and their safety issues
- Experience of working within a pharmacy team
- Demonstrates an understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
- Demonstrates the ability to be able to handle safely and competently pharmaceutical equipment and medicines used in the dispensing process
- Evidence of Continual Professional Development (CPD)
- Medication counselling experience
Desirable
- Experience of working within clinical trials
