Job summaryUniversity Hospitals Birmingham is recruiting enthusiastic and compassionate Registered Nurses to join our Critical Care teams at Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals. We have full-time and part-time opportunities available for both experienced and newly qualified nurses.
Our Critical Care Units care for a wide range of critically ill patients, providing experience across specialist services including vascular surgery, cytoreductive surgery, nephrology and infectious diseases, alongside general surgery, emergency medicine and complex medical care. This diverse caseload offers excellent opportunities to develop medical and surgical critical care nursing skills within a supportive environment.
Applicants must hold current NMC registration. Newly qualified nurses are welcome to apply, provided they have obtained their PIN and completed a critical care placement during their training.

Main duties of the jobFollowing a comprehensive induction and tailored development programme, you will care for patients who are critically ill or recovering from critical illness, working within a skilled multidisciplinary team.
Critical care nursing is both challenging and rewarding, supporting patients and families through some of the most difficult times in their lives. Our units promote innovation, continuous improvement and evidence-based practice to ensure the highest standards of care.
Our Critical Care workforce works across Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals, providing experience in three units and a range of specialist services. Working across both sites broadens clinical expertise, supports professional development and strengthens patient care.

QualificationsEssential- Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register i.e. ( Adult / Child / Learning Disability or Mental Health)
- Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses / or post graduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post registration experience
ExperienceEssential- Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary health and care setting (can include undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months)
- Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
- Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and the proficiencies and standards for registered nurses can apply this to undergraduate training or post graduate practice
- Being an accountable professional
- Promoting health and preventing ill health
- Assessing needs and planning care
- Providing and evaluating care
- Leading and and managing nursing care and working in teams -- including prioritisation and and delegation skills
- Coordinating care and responding to deteriorating health
- Improving safety and quality of care
- Awareness of current relevant clinical and professional issues and NHS policy
- Understanding / experience of the principles of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity
- Awareness of Health and Safety issues.
Desirable- Experience in working in in an Acute NHS practice setting as an undergraduate student nurse or post graduate registered nurse.
