Job summaryUniversity Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust is one of the largest acute hospital Trusts in England, serving the populations of Birmingham and Solihull. The Trust is composed of four main hospital sites: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEHB), Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital (HGS).
The clinical biochemistry department provides a 24/7 diagnostic and monitoring service for routine and urgent automated investigations. The Clinical Chemistry department is equipped with Abbott Alinity c and i series analysers and the Abbott a3600 track.
Specialist Chemistry provides a wide range of services to the Trust as well as other Hospital Trusts. Equipment includes IDS iSYS, Shimadzu HPLC and Sciex Tandem Mass Spectrometry analysers, with several tests measured including immunosuppressant's and steroids.
As one of the specialist's biomedical scientists within the team, you will be trained and supported in the analysis, technical validation, interpretive decisions, and reporting of samples to achieve the objectives of efficient and effective patient care.

We are UKAS accredited to ISO 15189 2022 standards, MHRA approved and IBMS accredited for training.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience of working in a fast-paced department that is continually growing, and to expand and develop your existing knowledge and skills.
You must have a BSc in Biomedical Science (or equivalent) with HCPC registration. The ideal candidate will have a wide range of chemistry experience. The Specialist Diploma is essential, however current band 5 staff with relevant experience may be considered on a B6 learning contract.
The laboratory operates a 24/7 service, and after appropriate training, you will be expected to support the departmental shift system as required, shifts are currently arranged as follows Early (7:30-3:30pm), Day (9:00-5:00pm), Late 14:00-22:00pm) and Nights (21:45pm-7:45am).
