Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Nurse to join the Neonatal team as the Lead Nurse, supporting the delivery of the Perinatal Strategy and play a key role in shaping the development of neonatal services. The Lead Nurse will work alongside the Perinatal Leadership team providing strategic, operational and clinical leadership, working collaboratively across maternity and neonatal services and within the Local Maternity and Neonatal System.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide senior professional leadership for the neonatal nursing service.
  • Lead the development and delivery of high quality neonatal services.
  • Work with the Neonatal clinical lead, Director of Midwifery, Modern Matron and operational managers to deliver service objectives.
  • Lead or contribute to service improvement and transformation.
  • Monitor quality, safety and governance.
  • Manage and monitor local budgets and resources.
  • Have overall responsibility for nursing workforce planning

Job responsibilities
The Lead Nurse will provide credible and visible nurse leadership both within the clinical group and as a key member of the corporate nursing team. Together with the Clinical Director and Group Director of Operations, the Lead Nurse will be responsible for the supporting the delivery of the organisational strategy, the annual operational plan and financial performance and in addition, provide clear operational leadership in patient flow / discharge planning.

Within this context, the Lead Nurse will work within the group on quality, safety and patient experience, and any corporate objectives that reflect the Chief Nursing Officer portfolio.

The Lead Nurse may be required to lead on corporate issues outside their immediate sphere of responsibility in order to achieve the corporate objectives of the Trust.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • 1st level Registered Nurse
  • Current NMC registration
  • Masters Degree or working towards or equivalent experience and evidence of working at a senior nursing level relevant clinical experience.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Desirable
  • Lean or other improvement methodologies

Experience
Essential
  • Substantial senior nursing / midwifery experience
  • Proven record of leading and effectively managing change across organisations
  • Evidence of leadership development

Desirable
  • Project management experience
  • Experience of implementing Lean methodologies

  • Expert knowledge of the post's area of responsibility
  • Sound knowledge of NHS agenda
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of current issues in nursing & midwifery

  • Persuasive with strong influencing skills and the ability to manage conflict
