Job summaryJob Title: Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus
To actively provide and support the further development of first-class ophthalmology services for the Trust, working in collaboration with clinical colleagues in all disciplines to provide an integrated service for patients. The post will be for 10 programmed activities per week, giving adequate time for SPA duties. The working week has 8 sessions devoted to direct clinical care; this includes ROP screening and treatment sessions. Two SPA sessions of which 1.5PA is for to support CPD, audit, teaching and training and the rest 0.5 SPA depends on the commitment. Appointee is expected of continuing professional development (CPD) in the SPA time given to fulfil Appraisal and Revalidation. Travel time will be considered, and adequate lunch break is provided.
The department has a regular commitment to audit, with 10 sessions per year committed to audit and clinical governance. Teaching is an integral part of the unit, with junior doctors, medical students, orthoptic and optometry students rotating through the department. The candidate will be expected to participate in Audits, seminars and lectures for medical students, junior doctors and other professional or lay groups with health interests.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will form part of a team of consultants providing a comprehensive Ophthalmology service to the population of Coventry and Warwickshire. Inpatient operating and clinical activity will take place at University Hospitals and Rugby St Cross Hospital.
The successful candidate will manage paediatric patients and be part of the 1 in 10 consultant on-call rota.
