Job summarySurgical Pre-admission Assessment is a great way to develop your nursing career.
The post involves screening and pre operative assessment of a diverse group of patients undergoing a wide range of elective surgical and orthopaedic procedures. The role requires an inquisitive nature & provides a varied and interesting workload where two days are never the same.
It is expected that the candidates for the band 6 post will have experience and knowledge of surgical procedures and pathways, good critical decision making skills & communication skills.

Bournemouth Hospital is part of University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust since our merger with Poole Hospital. It is an exciting time for our department as we are in the process of roll out of our digital pre-assessment service, changing and shaping the way the department runs to improve patient care.
Base Location: Bournemouth/Poole with a move to Poole in line with the Phase 3 move.Interview Date: 24th SeptemberMain duties of the jobAssessment of patients undergoing surgical procedures, with a focus on major orthopeadics and digital triage to include taking of full health history, utilising GP records and historic notes, to ensure optimal pathway through to safe surgery. With advanced training, the band 6 role includes physical assessment of patients.
Coordination of the department on a daily basis to ensure flow of patients through the department & best utilisation of staff.
Ordering of investigations to include, but not restricted to, blood tests, ECG's, swabs & urine samples as per NICE guidelines & UHD protocols.
Referral to MDT where appropriate, to include anaesthetist, Anticoagulant clinic, Respiratory function team.
Communication with MDT to include admissions teams.
Coordination of patient follow up as integral part of role.

QualificationsEssential- NMC Registered Nurse
- Advanced Physical examination of the Adult qualification
Desirable- Learning & assessing qualification
ExperienceEssential- Broad surgical /Anaesthetic Nursing experience.
- Ability to work at an autonomous level
Desirable- Evidence of supervision of staff to ensure standards of care
Technical Skills CompetenciesEssential- IT literacy using a range of current and relevant packages
Desirable- Venepuncture
- ECG recording
