Job summaryAn opportunity has arisen within the Echocardiography service at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB), across Royal Derby Hospital, Queen's Hospital Burton and Community Diagnostic Centres. We are seeking an experienced Advanced Clinical Physiologist / Healthcare Scientist who shares our vision of delivering consistently outstanding patient care.
The Royal Derby Hospital echo department is BSE accredited in transthoracic, training and transoesophageal echocardiography and is working towards stress echo accreditation. The service provides adult transthoracic and transoesophageal studies and supports regional congenital, paediatric and ACHD clinics.
We have well-established physiologist-led services including exercise stress echocardiography, contrast studies and valve surveillance clinics. The successful applicant will be BSE accredited in adult transthoracic echocardiography (minimum one year post-accreditation) and will join a progressive Advanced Clinical Physiologist team within Echocardiography and Non-Invasive Cardiology. Professional development is supported, including attendance at BSE conferences and relevant training.
Main duties of the jobApplicants must demonstrate proven competency in adult transthoracic echocardiography. Experience in paediatric echocardiography is desirable. Candidates should have experience performing and reporting a range of advanced non-invasive cardiology investigations, including cardiac stress testing and Head-Up Tilt Testing (HUTT), ensuring accurate interpretation and high-quality patient care. Applicants should be able to assist in specialised adult cardiac ultrasound investigations and procedures, including bubble and contrast studies, 2D and 3D echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) and pericardiocentesis procedures within the cardiac catheter laboratory (desirable). Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team environment and supporting complex procedures is advantageous. The role requires a commitment to ongoing professional development and training in advanced imaging modalities, including stress echocardiography, 3D echocardiography, TOE, speckle tracking and strain analysis. Participation in physiologist-led Valve Surveillance Clinics and contribution to the echocardiography on-call service is expected, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to service delivery.

Person SpecificationQualifications and ExperienceEssential- BSc Clinical Physiology Degree/STP/ETP
- Substantial post-graduate experience as a Senior Clinical Physiologist.
- Continual professional development with up-to-date knowledge of current practices and relevant new technology
- Education and training skills with experience of training and assessment
Desirable- Experience in Advanced Echocardiography
Skills and AbilityEssential- Demonstrates evidence in a wide range of echocardiography
- Evidence of leadership/teamwork
Other requirementsEssential- Ability to work under pressure (emotional resilience and ability to prioritise and plan work).
- Ability to support patients (or their carers) including those with a range of acute or chronic clinical conditions and disabilities in a variety of healthcare settings.
