Job summaryAn opportunity has arisen for a Permanent Band 7 Paediatric Dietitian to join our friendly, supportive and forward thinking paediatric dietetic team. The paediatric team delivers services across University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB) and the team are well integrated as part of the Children's Hospitals at both Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital Burton but may involve some working at Royal Derby Hospital.
As a teaching hospital we have a wealth of experience across many clinical areas, and we work closely with our tertiary centres in the surrounding area for shared care patients. We have a high number of patients, and high flow through the service so experience of managing a busy caseload is essential. The post holder will report directly to the team leaders at Queens Hospital, Burton.

Main duties of the jobYour role will include leading and developing the paediatric services at Queens Hospital and support and clinically supervise the specialist paediatric dietitians at this site. Your clinical role will include delivering a specialist feeding clinic run jointly with a speech and language therapist for very complex patients with feeding difficulties as well as a regular outpatient clinic for complex clinical conditions/ faltering growth.
The department provides a service to multiple clinical conditions within paediatrics including faltering growth, paediatric feeding disorders, food allergies including cow's milk allergies and coeliac disease in both inpatient and outpatient clinics as well as MDT working with medical teams and other health care professionals. We do not offer visits off site. You will work as an active member of the Paediatric Dietetic team and wider department. We are routinely involved in project work and service improvement and follow evidence-based practice.
We pride ourselves on having a very close relationship with the wider MDTs within the hospital, including working with consultants, specialist nurses, speech and language therapy, psychologists and the play team. This gives us the opportunity for advanced clinical supervision as respected members of the team. We take dietetic students on placement and involvement in student training will be part of this role.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- BSc in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent.
- UK Registered Dietitian with the Health and Care Professions Council.
- Qualified and experienced in training student dietitians.
- Facilitation of learning course for dietitians
Desirable- Member of British Dietetic Association.
- Relevant BDA specialist group membership
- Leadership training.
Experience and KnowledgeEssential- Has knowledge and varied experience of working with complex paediatric patients
- Substantial recent post-registration dietetic experience
- Able to demonstrate expert skills in paediatric dietetics, influencing multi-professional practice in this area
- Extensive knowledge of clinical effectiveness and clinical evidence related to the application of paediatric dietetics.
- Understanding of Clinical Governance.
- Evidence of continued professional development, reflection, and appraisal of own performance.
Desirable- Previous experience of service development
SkillsEssential- Able to demonstrate high quality written and verbal communication skills
- Awareness of communication needs of people from differing cultures and with differing physical and learning abilities
