The Stroke Rehabilitation Unit (SRU) is a purpose-built, 21-bed specialist facility dedicated to helping patients recover lost skills and regain independence following a stroke. At the heart of SRU is a robust MDT where specialist doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists, rehabilitation and nursing assistants work in close collaboration.

Main duties of the jobResponsible, as part of a team, for the day-to-day management of patients on our Ward 4 Stroke Rehabilitation Unit based at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital and in outpatient services for Stroke Rehabilitation Medicine patients.
Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients within the Stroke Rehabilitation Medicine service.
Leadership to junior staff Shared role in delivery of teaching and training Active participation in quality improvement, audit and research activities of these services Keeping up to date and participating in continuing professional development Participation in annual appraisals

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- MBBS / MBChB or equivalent
- MRCP part one / MRCGP AKT / FRCEM SBA
- Advanced Life Support
- Full GMC Registration with a license to practice
Desirable- Additional higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the speciality
- MRCP / MRCGP / FRCEM or equivalent higher qualification
Teaching experience, audit and researchEssential- Evidence and experience of supervising and teaching resident doctors and medical students
- Experience of and commitment to clinical audit and/or Quality Improvement Projects (QIP)
- Experience of teaching clinical skills
- Evidence and ability to assess and apply evidence-based research into every day clinical practice
Desirable- Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements
- Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to under-graduates
Clinical Knowledge and skillsEssential- Up to date clinical knowledge in the relevant speciality and evidence of an understanding of its application
- Experienced in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need
- Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis).
Desirable- Minimum 6 months of NHS experience within the last 2 years
